The R&D Manager for Onion/Garlic is responsible for leading efforts involved in new product / process
development and improvements with direct responsibility for some projects. This position initiates, evaluates
plans, directs, executes, implements, and reports on activities related to the development of new products,
improvements or cost savings ideas. This position carries the responsibility to mentor team members and grow
their capabilities for contributing to the organization while coordinating and managing the efforts of the R&D
Initiates, investigates, and implements new formulations, process improvements, and cost savings
projects in both product development as well as Quality Improvement of products & processes in the
Acts as a go to person for all technical information, to all customers, operating units of the company on
formulation / processing issues related to assigned projects within the Onion & Garlic category.
Completes technical assessments for evaluation of new product / process opportunities.
Establishes and monitors the projects pipeline review and prioritization system for the R&D as a key link
with the sales/Product Line Management Team.
Facilitating all sample requests and assigning the right product to the customer & sales teams.
Responsible for implementation of new processes in the plant & working with the plant management.
Assisting customers with respect to product quality issues or quality improvement initiatives.
Filing and maintaining customer specifications and ensure the specifications are supported by the
appropriate documents at the factory floor level at the operating units.
Assisting in continuous improvement initiatives that reduce manufacturing costs, improve quality and / or
enhance customer service.
Questions processes, procedures and policies. Fully investigates, develops, and presents alternatives for

attending seminars and maintaining
Mentoring staff to increase their technical knowledge and potential contribution to the company.
Act as the liaison between the Company and Customer Development Representatives, Regulatory
Inspectors and Third Party Auditors.
Keep abreast of Savory Seasoning & Flavor Industry and Regulatory trends and developments as it relates to
core business interests.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
MUST have a Master’s Degree or above in Food Science & Technology.
Must have a minimum of 5-10 years of Product Development, R&D experience - From Concept to
Knowledge of Regulatory aspects within the spices based on the processes & industry practice.
MUST have knowledge in food chemistry, analytical chemistry associated food ingredients, and statistical analysis.
Color, Flavor, Mycotoxin, Pesticide & other chemical residue testing is critical knowledge to be able to succeed in
MUST be able to accurately prepare specifications, label declarations and formulations without technical errors.
MUST have strong business acumen and demonstrate business knowledge by leading discussion and direction on
project work with the organization and determining effects of department work on total financial picture.
MUST be able to identify opportunities and exhibit high energy and a willingness to be involved.
Must articulate strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
MUST have proven ability to interact effectively with department, company or customer associates and experience
in a team-oriented environment is required.
Applicant must be creative, pro-active, have the ability to “think outside the box” and accept or create new ideas
and take calculate risks on new products and process development.
MUST have strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
MUST be willing to travel as needed (25% to 35%)
Preferred: Knowledge of Onion/Garlic dehydration or vegetable dehydration industry.
