                   Escambia County Holds Public Meeting
                    to Discuss Greenway Trail Extension
The Escambia County Water Quality and Land Management Division will hold a public meeting
to discuss the proposed Southwest Greenway Trail Extension to Fairfield Drive on Thursday,
March 26, 5 p.m. at Lexington Terrace Community Center, 700 South Old Corry Field Road.

The Southwest Greenway Trail is part of the Florida Greenways and Trails initiative, a program
of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection that manages a recreational trail network
throughout the state.

The Lexington Terrace, Glenn Key, and Jones Swamp Trail, and the proposed extension linking
to Fairfield Drive will be the easternmost section of the eventual 25-mile Southwest Greenway
trail. This system will link Lexington Terrace, Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve, Tarkiln Bayou
State Preserve, Big Lagoon State Park and the Perdido Pitcher Plant Prairie Preserve.

The division is seeking grant funding for the trail and boardwalk extension from the Recreational
Trails Program administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in
coordination with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration

Greenway Trail contact Jimmie Jarratt at Neighborhoods and Community Services at (850) 595-
