QUESTIONS & ANSWERS (Q & A)
(Provided for Informational Purposes Only)
Q1. The questions I have are the type of window dressing or kit you want to go around the unit in the window? And
you mentioned a slide out type. Are you stating that the unit has a mountable shell and the guts can slide out and be
repaired from the inside? Or one that the whole unit is removed from the inside? The reason I ask is a $50
difference per unit.
A1. The types of dressing around the window will have to be most likely 5/8" plywood that is painted black, due to
the amount of open space there will be. Yes, we are stating that the unit has a mountable shell and the guts can slide
out and be repaired from the inside.
Q2. Is the labor for the installation of the a/c units to be included in the unit price on line item 0002 or 0001 ? Line
item 0002 indicates no labor or materials for the installation of the a/c units. Please clarify.
A2. The labor, installation, and procurement of the A/C's will be included in the unit price of Line Item 0002.
Q3. Please confirm exact location where a/c units are to be installed. Upper or lower glass panel. When glass panel
is removed for the installation, is the barracks keeping the windows and screens, or is the contractor responsible for
disposal? Please clarify.
A3. The location of the A/C units will be the upper level window closest to the outlet. The windows and screens
will stored by the US Government.
Q4. Statement of work indicates the following quantities; Bldg. 401- 32 rooms, Bldg. 402- 32 rooms, Bldg. 403- 30
rooms, Bldg. 404- 30 rooms, Total rooms- 124. Line item 0002 specifies 140 units. Is the additional units being
stored for replacements or to be installed elsewhere not indicated? Please clarify quantities.
A4. The extra A/C units will be also be stored and used for replacements as needed.
Q5. 3 year warranty on 140 units
Manufactures do not offer extended warranty on room air conditioners. Is the extended warranty provided by the
contactor? Manufactures warranty is 1 year parts. Contractor warranty is 1 year on labor. Please clarify in detail
the requirements of the 3 year warranty.
A5. The intent is to have the A/C units covered with a 3 year warranty for both parts and labor. If 1 year is the only
warranty available, then we will have to go with a service contract later on.
Q6. There is a total of 124 rooms that needs to be wired and 128 rooms that needs air conditioners installed. Is there
a reason for the difference in count?
A6. We have 124 living spaces. The other 4 units are for the 4 Office spaces which are currently already wired for
Page 3 of 3
Q7. Is the contractor responsible for any demo or disposal of the existing units installed in Bldg. 401 – 404?
A7. All of the current units are personal units and the US Government will be responsible for disposing of them.
Q8. What type of material is required for the void space around the new window ac unit?
A8. The preferred material for the dead space will be either 5/8 or 3/4 inch plywood painted black to match the other
Q9. There are 12 rooms on each floor with a total of 36 units per bldg. totaling 144 for all four buildings. Will the
Government provide a list of the rooms that will be requiring the new installation of window ac units?
A9. Once the contract is awarded we will provide a room by room roster for each of the building.
Q10. Per Attachment #1, Statement of Work - 1.1 - BACKGROUND – Calls out for 128 rooms that require WAC
and 2.1 GENERAL - Air Conditioning Units calls out for 140 units. Please confirm count.
A10. The additional A/C's units will be stored as replacements in case we need them.
