Dr Susan Bews MD PFPM FFPM FRCP
Dr Susan Bews has more than 30 years experience in Pharmaceutical
Medicine. She is the Ex- President of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine
of The Royal College of Physicians, from November 2005 to November 2009.
Dr Bews has held several positions with increasing responsibility in the
Pharmaceutical industry and as a Medical Director with varying sized
pharmaceutical companies for over twenty-five years. She has extensive
experience in the development of medicines across a wide range of
therapeutic areas and has been involved in both R&D and commercial
activities. During that time, she served on the Medical Committee of the
Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) for nearly twenty
years, chairing this committee for ten of these. She was also on the
Medicines Commission (a Government advisory body) for five years and is
now on its veterinary counterpart. Dr Bews has been a member of the
Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority Appeal Board for twenty
years. She is also Member of Clinical Trials Expert Group of The Commission
on Human Medicines, MHRA.
In addition to her work on governance and professional regulation for both the
Faculty and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, Dr Bews is involved with
professional regulation outside of the healthcare sector and is governor of a
number of organisations concerned with education and heath. Dr Bews has
been awarded Fellowship from each of the three Royal Colleges of Physicians
of the United Kingdom.
