```									PLACE VALUE CHART
________ ______ ______ . ______ _______ _______ _______ _________
EXPANDED FORM = listing out the value of each digit in a number
564 = 500 + 60 + 4
134.32 = 100 + 30 + 2 + .3 + .02
4567.802 = 4000 + 500 + 60 + 7 + .8 + .002
ROUNDING DECIMALS
Round 76.285 to the nearest hundredth.
Underline the place value that you are rounding.
Box in that underlined number and one number to the right of it.
If the number to the right is 5 or greater than 5 - then the
underlined number goes up by one. If the number to the right is 4
or less than 4, then the number STAYS the SAME.
Round up or leave the number the same writing above original
number.
All of the numbers to the left stay the same, and all of the
numbers to the right turn into 0.
ESTIMATING DECIMALS
*Estimating should make your job of solving problem QUICK AND EASY!!
makes sense!!! DO NOT confuse rounding with estimating!!
Examples:
\$45.97 + \$51.87 =
73.42 x 24.99 =
63.87 divided by 2.45 =
COMPARING AND ORDERING
To compare decimals you need to compare the numbers in each place
value spot – this can be done if you line up the decimals and use zeros as
place holders if needed. Compare from LEFT TO RIGHT.
