Colorado Supreme Court Justice Alex Martinez to be honored by
Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at annual gala
Colorado Supreme Court Justice Alex J. Martinez will be honored as a Pioneer in the
Hispanic Community at the 2003 Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce annual Fiesta
Colorado on Oct. 25, 2003. Martinez will join Erlinda Paiz Archuleta, Christine Benero, Dr.
Delio Tamayo, and Jeff Valez in receiving the Pioneer in the Hispanic Community award.
“I am delighted to be recognized by the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,” says
Martinez began his legal career as a deputy state public defender in Denver in 1976.
Martinez then moved to Pueblo supervising the Pueblo office of the state public defender in 1979.
In 1983, he was appointed as a county court judge in Pueblo County and in 1988 became a
district court judge in the Tenth Judicial District. Martinez was named to the Colorado Supreme
Court by Gov. Romer in September of 1996.
Alex Martinez, was born in Denver on April 19, 1951. He attended Phillips Exeter
Academy in N.H. and Reed College in Portland, Ore.; and he received a B.A. from the University
of Colorado in 1973, and a J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1976.
“It is significant that the business community is honoring the progress that Hispanics
have made in the legal and judicial communities,” says Martinez.
