							                       RED Station Manager Job Description




Students’ Union:
The aim of the Students’ Union is to support and enhance the educational, social,
cultural and recreational activities, and opportunities of the student body, and also to
provide a channel of communication for students with the University, NUS and other
bodies.


Purpose of job:
The purpose of the role is to improve the professionalism of RED by providing
stability, continuity, recruiting and nurturing talent, and developing strategic plans.


Reporting to:    Media Guild Executive, VP Services & Communication, Director
of Marketing Communications


Functional Relationships:
Marketing Communications Manager, Sabbatical Officers, Student Membership and
key University contacts.

Hourly Rate:                £1,400 paid monthly over 10 months

Principal Duties of Post:

   1. Responsible for recruiting, leading and motivating a team of student
      volunteers in delivering a high quality student radio station
   2. Overall responsibility for coordinating the production and transmission of RED
      within agreed timescales and budget.
   3. To achieve all objectives agreed by the Students’ Union on a termly basis
   4. To identify and assess opportunities for RED to utilise new methods or
      procedures to communicate effectively with the student membership.
   5. Any other tasks agreed by the Students’ Union’s VP Services &
      Communications and the Director of Marketing Communications .

General:

      Monthly meetings with the Students’ Union’s VP Student Development and
       Director of Marketing Communications
      All Media Guild Executive Meetings
      All Media Guild General Meetings
      Termly appraisal meetings with the Students’ Union’s VP Student
       Development and Director of Marketing Communications
      The station manager will be responsible for coordinating and chairing
       meetings with sub editors

Other Information

It is important to know that you will be appraised during the course of your work with
the Students’ Union. You will be expected to participate in any training programme,
meeting or conference considered relevant to your job. The Students’ Union
expects all staff to participate and take ownership of their Induction, Appraisal
Reviews, Departmental Staff Meetings and be responsible for reading and carrying
out duties with full regard to the rules, policies and procedures and conditions of
service contained in the Staff Handbook, and within Departments of the Students’
Union.

A condition of employment is that all staff are expected to assist in key events
throughout the year e.g. Summer Ball, Freshers Fair and any other key event,
including elections, if necessary. Staff are expected to portray a positive image,
both internally and externally of the Students’ Union by displaying high standards of
service, integrity, punctuality, politeness and professionalism.

Applicants should note that the University of Essex Students’ Union operates a No
Smoking Policy, although you may have to work in areas where smoking is
permitted.
