Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission to Meet in North
Carolina
The four-state Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission
will hold its third 2012 quarterly meeting on August 17 in Wilmington, NC. The
meeting will begin at 10 a.m., at International Longshoremen’s Association 1426
Hall, 1305 South 5th Street. The public is invited.
Highlights will include updates on Commission office space, executive
staff, standing committees, potential partnerships, and establishment of a fiscal
arm.
“We will review some of the public comments that have been received
about the Management Plan,” said Ronald Daise, Commission Chairman. “The
30-day Public Review Period will conclude on our meeting date, August 17.
Hopefully, the comments will be overwhelmingly favorable. They will be used to
fine-tune the Commission’s implementation efforts. The implementation theme is
`Enlighten and Empower Gullah Geechee People to Sustain the Culture.’”
Comments will be posted on the PEPC (National Park Service Planning,
Environment and Public Comment) Web site: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/guge
and the Corridor’s website: www.gullahgeecheecorridor.org. The Commission
plans to forward the Management Plan to the U.S. Secretary of the Interior for
approval in early fall 2012.
