Executive Summary:
Before beginning our school improvement plan for 2005-2010, the school improvement team and staff discussed school values and vision.
We aligned it with both the state and county mission, and addressed our school needs as well. Then we looked at our vision to explore the
questions, "Where do we want to be in the future?" and "What will it look like when we get there?" How will we bridge the gap in variance and
involve parents in the process? We created a common vision which will guide us as we proceed with the continuous school improvement
process.
Next, we examined the processes we were using and asked the question, "What will we do to meet our goals for this year?" Our priorities
included
student achievement, (flexible grouping), effective daily communication with positive behavior
management.
The following are highlights of the different strategies we are incorporating in our plan this year:
We will increase the use of flexible groups based on student needs and flexible group across grade levels.
Each group will be assessed frequently to determine progress, regroup and re-teach, and close identified achievement groups.
Parents are a vital part of school improvement. We will involve parent in school improvement and planning efforts. Parents will be surveyed
periodically for feedback in regard to instruction and school climate issues.
Parents will celebrate portfolio accomplishments in grades K-2 with child by being part of our regular student-led conferencing.
We will implement a school-wide writing plan aligned with Character Education. Hallways will be named based upon Character Education themes.
We will implement and monitor Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math.
We will use the Direct Instruction programs for reading, as needed.
We will assess and monitor math data quarterly and flexible group for math accordingly.
We will revise our attendance procedures and include more monitoring.
Each teacher will complete a Plan, Do, Study Act (PDSA) contract quarterly for reading and math based upon current data.
Integrate technology in daily instruction.
Our plan includes a continuous collection of data to monitor progress toward goals. This data will be analyzed frequently. After students are assessed,
they will be regrouped and re-taught as needed. There are also grade level strategies listed which will narrow the gap invariance for subgroups and
provide
"stretch" goals for higher level students. These strategies will ensure movement of students to high levels.
The Murrayville School staff is committed to higher expectations and meeting the needs of "all" students. We will create a positive, caring atmosphere for
learning, focus on the standard course of study, and monitor student performance, which will enable us to accomplish our school goals.
