o Duty of Care Paper presented to Curriculum Executive outlined the need to store
relevant PPD concerns in one location (attached).
Current Situation
1. Personal and Professional Development is currently assessed in the following areas:
attendance, commitment, motivation, interpersonal relationships, ethics awareness,
personal organization, reliability, self care and self directed learning. This is recorded on
paper after each clinical attachment;
2. Feedback and ‘actions taken’ in response to PPD assessment are not readily available to
relevant individuals (eg Student, Director of Studies, Year Director);
3. The PPD working group is currently developing an electronic tracking system to record
PPD assessment on the assessment engine that will secure with limited access.
Discussions with relevant individuals on the type of PPD information/concerns that needs
to be stored on system have been taking place. This has highlighted the differing roles
and responsibilities of the PPD vertical theme, Professional Development
Committee(PDC) and Fitness to Practice Committee(FPC). For example information
required for the continuing support and development of student versus information on
Fitness to Practice/disciplinary procedures.
Proposal
1. PPD working group to continue to develop the PPD tracking and monitoring system;
2. PPD working group to consult with selected members of PDC and FPC in reference to
purpose, content, policy and procedures within PPD tracking system throughout
development and before final approval by CE;
3. To electronically record PPD assessment using the current PPD domains as areas for
concern. i.e. attendance /time management, commitment, motivation, interpersonal
relationships, ethic awareness, organizational skills, reliability, self care and self directed
learning;
4. To continue to use current PPD assessment form to record overall PPD satisfactory level
and identify specific PPD concerns as outlined above;
5. To investigate the possibility of recording actions taken as result of PPD assessment.
