What is the goal of the Conference?
The goal for this year’s conference is to focus on bringing those who work on promoting and protecting
health together with those working in social or economic fields whose interventions and policies affect
the health outcomes of the population but do not have health as the main objective; such as housing,
income, employment, and education.
What is Health Promotion Ontario?
Health Promotion Ontario is a network of health promotion professionals working in the area of health
promotion within Ontario. The mission of HPO is to support the development of public health Activities
based on health promotion philosophy, practice and research.

The key to effective health promotion strategies is an understanding of what impacts health outcomes
and working in partnership to address the root causes. As the evidence continues to grow for the need
to address the social determinants of health in order to improve the health of the population, there is a
struggle to understand the role of health promotion when other sectors ultimately control the outcomes
of those areas that determine health. The goal for this year’s conference is to focus on bringing those
who work on promoting and protecting health together with those working in social or economic fields
whose interventions and policies affect the health outcomes of the population but do not have health as
the main objective; such as housing, income, employment, and education in order to move forward in
making these important connections.
At this year’s 25th celebration of Health Promotion Ontario come and join the conversation to move
forward and build connections to take the next step to address the social determinants of health to
improve the health of the population through collaboration across the health, social, economic and
