State budget cuts, increased health care costs for employees and retirees, and new contributions to
retirement benefits have forced the university to look for new efficiencies that will reduce overhead.
To deliver service more efficiently and at a consistently high level of quality, UCSF is consolidating Pre-
Award Research Service Administration into shared service centers.
[DEPARTMENT NAME] is requesting the indefinite layoff of [NAME], [TITLE].
Due to the implementation of the Pre-Award Research Administration Service Center effective [DATE],
[DEPARTMENT NAME] will no longer require Pre-Award Research Administration services to be
performed at the department level. Pre-Award Research Administration services will be performed
solely through the Pre-Award Research Administration Service Center, eliminating the need for Pre-
Award Research Administration work being performed by departmental employees.

Organizational chart of the reorganized department can be found in Appendix B.

assumed by the Pre-Award Research Administration Service Center effective [DATE], and will no longer
be performed in the department. No other employees will be impacted or assigned additional work as a
result of the elimination of this position. The tasks, broken down below, will be transferred to the Pre-
Award Research Administration Shared Service Center on [DATE]:
