9 PERSONAL STATEMENT

This is the most important section of your application and will form the basis on which
your application will be considered. This is an opportunity to sell yourself to the Selection
Committee and tell us about your interests/achievements in the area of excellence you
are applying for, your future plans and how a scholarship would benefit you.

IMPORTANT: On-Course Excellence Scholarships are awarded for achievement within
the academic year, you can mention successes you’ve had in the past but your
application will be judged on your achievements within the academic year 2011/2012.

Remember to be honest and specific – do not provide information which is irrelevant.
Providing good evidence to back up your achievements is essential if you wish your
application to be strongly considered. For example, if you describe winning sports
competitions, taking part in productions, volunteering for organisations etc. you should
provide photocopies of certificates and official letters to back this up.

Please note that large / fragile artwork cannot be accepted and work submitted will not be
returned (unless you specifically request this), therefore, photographs of your artwork
would be preferable. Footage of films or performances must be in a format that is
compatible with a DVD player. Digital works submitted in any other format will not be
accepted by the selection panel.

The Excellence Scholarships website (www.edgehill.ac.uk/scholarships) provides
information regarding what the selection panels are looking for in a good application.
Applicants are advised to check this before writing their statement.
