About Us
Horsecross Arts Limited is a charity registered in Scotland set up to run Perth Concert Hall, opened in
2005, and Perth Theatre, established in 1900. The name Horsecross is taken from the site of the
concert hall which is built on what used to be a 17 th century horse market. It is intended to create a
strong, friendly local identity and align the company with wider plans to bring new life to the city
centre. Perth was named Scotland’s newest city in May 2012.

Our Business
We have three business development priorities - arts and cultural activity, creative learning and
conferencing. Our core business is supported by our catering company (Perth Theatre Catering
Services Ltd) which runs our restaurants and bars at Redrooms, Perth Theatre and Glassrooms,
Perth Concert Hall.

Arts and Culture
We are a Creative Scotland Foundation Organisation supporting artists and practitioners to perform,
present and create work, develop practice, collaborate and find new audiences.

Perth Concert Hall champions live music and music talent across the spectrum from classical to rock
and pop. The Horsecross Arts team has already established a reputation for adventurous
programming, unique commissions, world class artists and community participation. We are also
building our reputation as a strategic talent hub for Scottish and Gaelic music and song supported by
Creative Scotland’s Talent Hub programme.
Perth Theatre is one of Scotland’s most loved and busiest producing theatres attracting audiences of
upwards of 60,000 to an award winning arts and theatre programme. We create, commission,
produce, present and tour theatre and are developing our role as an industry hub for theatre artists,
supporting creative and business development.

Creative Learning
We are a regional network hub for creative learning and a vibrant resource for youth arts. Our
ambition is for Horsecross Arts to be at the heart of community life and for each of our venues to be a

destination and a resource for the whole community. Our award winning creative learning team runs
arts projects and activities in our venues, in schools and in community settings across Perth and
Kinross, offering a range of opportunities for participation, personal development, creativity and for
enriching the Curriculum for Excellence.

Conferences
Perth Concert Hall is also helping to promote Perth as a leading conference destination. Our award
winning conference team is bringing significant regional, national and international conferences and
business meetings to Perth.

Perth Concert Hall
Perth Concert Hall is a stunning, contemporary, glass fronted, copper topped building designed by
Building Design Partnership following an architectural competition. The auditorium has maximum
flexibility in staging and seating, accommodating 1200 people seated in theatre style and up to 1600
by converting to flat floor. It has good sight lines and an excellent acoustic. It also houses a 120
capacity studio, boardroom, flexible meeting spaces, back of house facilities, administration and a
café bar.

Perth Theatre
Perth Theatre is one of Scotland’s oldest and most historic theatres. The theatre dates back to 1900
and was home to Scotland’s first repertory theatre company founded in 1935. Its beautiful category
‘B’ listed auditorium seating 460, is an important part of Perth’s and Scotland’s unique cultural
heritage.

Organisational relationships
You will be part of the Planning and Resources Team, lead by the Director of Planning and
Resources. Your line manager is the Senior Accountant (post-holder currently a secondee from
Morris & Young Chartered Accountants). You will work closely with all Horsecross departments to
provide a high quality financial administration and accounts service.

Base
Your principal base is Perth Theatre.

The Post – main objective

To assist in the proper and efficient maintenance of all accounting procedures for Horsecross Arts
and its wholly-owned trading subsidiary, Perth Theatre Catering Services Limited, as detailed below.

Duties and responsibilities

o   Horsecross Arts Limited purchase ledger administration
       distribute invoices to budget holders for authorisation
       purchase order/invoice matching

          purchase invoices coded and input to Sage
          cheques printed and posted
          supplier statement reconciliation

o   Perth Catering Services Limited purchase ledger administration
       invoices received from catering departments (Theatre & Hall) and input to Sage
       invoices passed to Catering Operations Manager for authorisation
       cheques printed then posted

o   Cash-book weekly cheques
       Various one-off payment of authorised non-purchase ledger invoices
       Cheques printed & posted

o BACS and international payments processing

o Visiting company settlements & cash advance administration

o Petty cash up-keep and return where required

o Banking of cash and other receipts

o Periodic financial accounting journals input to Sage

o Assist the Senior Accountant as required with month-end accounts close and periodic
  management accounts production

o Other tasks and special projects assigned from time to time by the Senior Accountant/Director of
  Planning & Resources

o Liaise with payroll service provider as required & post weekly, monthly and other periodic payroll
  journals to Sage accounts

o Occasional rota cover for general switchboard as required during admin staff absences

   To take an active part in communicating and co-operating with other staff and departments
   To follow guidelines, procedures and policies provided by the company in relation to financial
    management and personnel records

Summary of Terms and Conditions
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week within normal core hours Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.30pm

Salary of £17,250 per annum

Overtime is not payable

Holiday entitlement: 4 weeks, rising to 4 weeks + 2 Days after 3 years’ service, and rising to 5 weeks
after 5 years’ service, plus 10 days Public Holidays

Person Specification
Essential

      At least 1 year’s experience working within an accounts/finance office environment

      Experience of computerised accounting packages

      A good working knowledge and ability to use spreadsheets (preferably Excel) for accounting
       control, journal input preparation and financial analysis purposes

      A high level of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail

      Well-organised and able to deliver a busy workload efficiently within agreed deadlines

      The ability to work co-operatively as part of a team

      Good communication skills


Desirable

      An appropriate Accountancy qualification – vocational, professional and/or degree-level

      Knowledge of SAGE Accounts
