PREPARING FOR THE DEVELOPMENT DISCUSSION:
SELF-EVALUATION / GENERAL STAFF

The purpose of this outline is to support you in preparing for the development discussion. It serves
as a checklist for your own self-evaluation and helps you to identify relevant issues for discussion
during the session. Use your job description and your notes from the previous development
discussion as a starting-point. Note down concrete examples of tasks and situations that form the
basis of your self-evaluation.


1. WORK, WELLBEING AND RELATIONS IN THE WORKPLACE

Responsibilities
    What are your current job duties and responsibilities?

Career goals and expectations
   What are your goals and expectations for your future career? To what extent have you been
     able to realise your goals so far? What direction would you like to go in now?

Wellbeing
   How do you rate your personal wellbeing at the moment?
   Is there a balance most of the time between the requirements of your job and your
     professional resources?
   What are the things in your work and in other parts of your life that help you maintain your
     wellbeing?
   What are the risks that might endanger (or are already endangering) your wellbeing?
   What changes would you like to see in your work (workplace) that would lead to greater
     wellbeing at work?

Quality of workplace relations
   What is working well
          o in your working relationship and communication with your supervisor?
          o in your unit’s internal cooperation and communication?
   What would you like to develop
          o in your working relationship and communication with your supervisor?
          o in your unit’s internal cooperation and communication?

2. PROFICIENCY

Skills
    What competencies (knowledge, skills, methods and tools) and qualities are needed to fulfill
       the overall requirements of your job?
    In which tasks have you succeeded?
    In which areas is there a need for improvement?

    How would you describe the way you respond to
         o new challenges and assignments?
         o new ideas and ways of operating?
    What have you done to develop your work and your skills?

     Consider the ways you have shown initiative in

5. PERFORMANCE TARGETS FOR THE FOLLOWING REVIEW PERIOD AND
   RELATED MEASURES

     Target-setting is part of the development discussion. What are the quantitative or qualitative
      targets you would like to work towards?
     What concrete measures, e.g. to improve performance or develop skills, are required in
      order to reach these targets?
          o steps to be taken by your supervisor
          o steps to be taken by you yourself
