The Concert Band
The concert band, like the marching band performs at both military and civilian
occasions. The band’s repertoire encompasses traditional military marches, popular
music from shows and films, together with modern works for symphonic wind band.
The band performs throughout the north west and in venues as varied as TA Drill halls,
Manchester Cathedral and numerous theatres and hotels.
The highlight of recent years was to play as part of the massed bands of the TA in the TA
100 pageant on a purpose built stage on Horse Guards Parade London
The Marching Band
The Marching band supports the regular and territorial army, together with the main
services and cadets of the Navy, RAF and numerous ex combatant associations.
The band is equally at home on parades or beating the retreat displays. Regular annual
events include, Remembrance day parades, formerly in Bolton, but in recent years in
Central Manchester, The Lord Mayors parade Bolton, The Battle of Britain parade in
Sale, and Beating the Retreat for the RA National Assembly Blackpool. Also at the
Macclesfield Town hall and the Preston military show at Fulwood barracks. The band
was also invited to appear at the 2011 Buxton military Tattoo.
The highlight of recent years was to march down the Mall past Buckingham Palace, as
part of the TA 100 pageant.
The Band has also previously appeared with the Royal Artillery Band in massed band
displays on Horse Guards Parade before Her Majesty the Queen in 1986 and 1991, the
FA Cup Final at Wembley in 1994, and assisted the RA Band at the Gun Salute by
King’s Troop in Green Park to mark the state opening of Parliament.
The band may provide two brass quintets from its ranks. These versatile ensembles may
provide a wide variety of music and are a popular accompaniment to military dinners,
cocktail parties and society weddings.
They are available for civilian engagements by permission of CO 103 Regiment.
Most Engagements are carried out in the north west region but the groups have performed
throughout the UK, and even as far away as the Ascension Island.
The Fanfare team can provide a sense of occasion to any event. Whether announcing the
arrival of dignitaries or sporting personalities, the trumpeters will ensure the arrival does
not go unnoticed.
As well as military engagements, the team has previously performed at numerous boxing
events and the Grand National. The band may provide a lone trumpeter to sound last post
at military events and funerals to full fanfare teams with timpani for ceremonial
occasions and weddings.
