Administers HISD’s assault leave program, including evaluating investigation reports, handling
claim approvals/denials, and reviewing claims to ensure compliance with legal and local laws and
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Identifies requests for Assault Leave by district employees from submitted Employee Injury
and Treatment forms (EIT).
2. Maintains current log of Assault claims filed, Work Status Reports (DWC-73s), Report of
Medical Evaluation (DWC-69s), and employee work status on all filed claims.
3. Communicates with Principals and department managers regarding assault leave claims
and obtains campus/department incident reports. Evaluates reports and claim records,
including any additional documents received to prepare claim file and summarized report for
committee review. Schedules review committee and prepares the agenda and record of
4. Prepares letter of approval or denial, based upon committee decisions, for Sr. Manager of
Workers Compensation for signature. Scans and emails signed letter to payroll, school
supervisors, and employee.
5. Coordinates claim with WC Specialists, adjuster, payroll, HR and work location, including
light duty assignments. Ensures that there is adequate documentation that claimants
receiving benefits are off-duty due to physical injuries. Communicates with claimant, HR,
Payroll, and Supervisor regarding ongoing issues involving claim.
6. When claimant no longer has adequate documentation that they are off-duty due to physical
injuries related to the assault, notifies claimant and supervisor that Assault Leave benefits
are terminated. Also issues same notification when claimant has received a full duty
release under Workers’ Compensation if assault leave is still approved at the time of being
released to return to duty under Workers’ Compensation. Responds to requests for return-
to-work status, leave time balances, and approval status.
7. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Associate’s Degree, or
Additional equivalent and directly related education and experience in lieu of an Associate’s
degree, as determined by Human Resources and the hiring manager. Equivalent experience is
two or more years in a related field in addition to the minimum experience requirement of three

Experience with document handling, reviews, audits, and data entry. Must be detail oriented and
have the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines. Public entity experience is

Licensed Workers’ Compensation Adjuster.
Must have 30 hours of CE every two years in order to maintain active Workers’ Compensation
No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and
training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied.
Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available
resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
No budget development activity is required.
Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still
subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and
improve existing methods or generate new ideas.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Decisions have moderate impact to the facility/department or division, causing increased
