ACADEMIC INSTITUTION: The College of Public Health Sciences, Chulalongkorn University
DURATION: Two years (start in June)

OBJECTIVES:
    To develop and produce post-graduate students who can conduct high quality academic researches in
     the field of public health sciences.
    To develop and produce the body of knowledge via academic researches in the field of public health
     sciences.


COURSE SYNOPSIS:

In the two years programme, students are exposed through their interest to one of the three branches namely
Thai traditional and alternative medicines, bimolecular technology and health behavior. The programme
prepares its student to make and effective contribution in either the public or the private sector.

Seminar in Public Health Sciences V, Seminar in Public Health Sciences VI, Application of Medicinal Plant
Research I, Application of Medicinal Plant Research II, Standardization of Medicinal Plants, Plant Constituents
and Biological Activities I, Plant Constituents and Biological Activities II, Medicinal Herbs I, Medicinal Herbs
II, Addictive Behavior, Substance Use and Behavior, Substance Use and Epidemic, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and
other Infectious Diseases Allied to Substance Misuse, Health Consequence from Alcohol and other Drugs

  QUALIFICATIONS:

  Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

      1.    Applicants must be working professionals in the public, private or international sectors related in public
            health and public health sciences such as hospital directors and managers, primary health center staff,
            administrators, policy makers and other officials or public health professionals.
      2.    Applicants must have at least a Bachelor degree in a related field such as medicine, nursing, public
            health, social work, physical therapy, pharmaceutical sciences, political sciences, sociology and
            anthropology.
      3.    Applicants must have at least one year working experience, a commitment to personal professional
            development, the support of their superiors, good English reading, writing, and speaking abilities, and
            other capabilties for scucessfully completing this course of studies. Or have score 450( a minimum of
            400) in TOEFL (133 for computer-based) or 5.0 in IELTS within last two years.
      4.    Applicants should be able to communicate effectively and able to use computer and other learning
            technologies.
      5.    The college encourages applicantions from people who, due to gender, age, geographic location, social
            group or other cheracteristics, have not previously had a fair and equal opportunity to undertake
            postgraduate studies.
      6.    Preference is given to those nominated as learning teams (consisting of at least four) by the Institute for
            Health Manpower Development, Ministry of Public Health, and internation agencies or similar
            sponsoring authorities, Individuals will also be specifically recruited through these agencies to
            participate in ongoing research that reflets their institutional needs as a theme for their stuidies.

Estimated Living cost:


The basic living expenses, including accommodation, meals, and personal expenses, are estimated at 20,000-
25,000 Baht (US$ 500-600) per month for a student who wishes to live in Thailand.
