                                 The Truman Show
                                                    PERSONAL RESPONSE ESSAY
Truman Burbank lives a happy life. However, what he doesn't know is that his life is actually the focus of a
reality TV show aired since his birth; that he's the star, his hometown is a giant set piece, and everyone
around him is an actor. Christof, the producer has control of everything in Truman’s life. He was an
unwanted pregnancy and Christof chose him to be the centre of what is “The Truman Show”. Truman's life is
filmed through thousands of hidden cameras, 24 hours a day and broadcast live around the world, allowing
executive producer Christof to capture Truman's real emotion and human behavior when put in certain
           situations.

After watching “The Truman Show”, you should have created some kind of personal opinion of whether
what was done to Truman was ethical or not. Your personal response essay should discuss three issues:

                 1. Do you believe what Christof did was ethical? Support your opinion with examples from the movie.
                 2. Do you believe that Christof did the right thing in trying to stop Truman from leaving Seahaven,
when Truman suspected that the town revolved around him and he was determined to get off the
island? What was Christof’s justification in trying to keep him in Seahaven?
                 3. What do you think Truman’s real life will be like once off the island and off the TV show? Do you
think he’ll regret finding out the truth when he sees that real life includes hurt, pain, sorrow, lies,
deceit, and hate, something he never saw before on the island?

                                                                MARKING RUBRIC
