ACCESS Data Validation

The ACCESS Data Validation window has been REVISED. The new window is now May 3 – 11.
Please see the attached document entitled Demographic Data Validation Timeline for more
information. A TNN was sent to your TC on Monday with this information. Additional
information about the validation process will be available in the April 26 webinar. See below for
webinar details.

You do NOT need to register again.

This webinar will address the Access Discrepancy Report process which is part of the Data

2) Integrating Vocabulary into Reading and Writing in K-5, April 27, 2011 3:30-4:30

The majority of NC's English language learners (ELLs) are born in the U.S., yet many are still
identified as ELLs into middle school. Dr. Calderón will share strategies to build language skills in
K-5 ELLs and move them toward English language proficiency.

The webinar room will be open from 3:00 – 5:00 for set up and Q&A. Please note that the
actual webinar does not begin until 3:30.

June 14-16 SIOP Team Training in Sanford

Teams of 5 from schools or districts are invited to request to participate in the June SIOP
training. See SIOP Team attachment for details on expectations and team make-up.

There is no registration fee for this workshop. Travel expenses are the responsibility of
participants. DPI will not reimburse for substitutes or for travel. It is suggested that participants
work with their school or school district to cover the cost of travel (mileage, lodging, meals)
and substitutes.

Two summer professional development opportunities are planned. You will want to form your
teams now! The request to participate registration will be available online soon.

   a) ESL Data Retreat at the McKimmon Center, Raleigh

A four-day Data Retreat will be offered in two, 2-day sessions: July 12-13 and August 9-10,

   b) Three concurrent ExC-ELL trainings August 2-4, 2011 on the Campus of the University of
       North Carolina at Charlotte

1) A three-day institute for secondary teams (grades 6-12) on Expediting Reading
Comprehension for English Language Learners (ExC-ELL) .

2) A three-day institute for elementary teams (grades K-5) on Expediting Reading
Comprehension for English Language Learners (ExC-ELL).

3) A three-day follow-up training for participants from the August 2009 or August 2010
Literacy for English Language Learners (ELLs).
