I am very pleased to announce a new grant source for the campus, Innovation
Grants for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity. Full guidelines, proposal

You are invited to a workshop and networking session for the Innovation
Grants on Thursday, September 23, 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., in the
Multicultural Center of the MLK, Jr. Student Union. This workshop is open to
students, staff, and faculty and will focus on successful grant writing,
project management, and how to build collaboration with other groups on
campus in order to strengthen your proposal. Light snacks will be
The Innovation Grants are funded by the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund and
are part of the UC Berkeley Initiative for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity.
I invite all members of the University community who have an idea for an
innovative project to complete a full proposal and participate in this
important campus wide effort.
The purpose of these grants is to encourage new and sustainable projects
among UC Berkeley students, staff, and faculty that further the strategies
and objectives in the UC Berkeley Strategic Plan for Equity, Inclusion, and
Diversity. (For the full Strategic Plan, go to
http://diversity.berkeley.edu/StrategicPlan.) Proposals will be evaluated
based on their sustainability and scalability, overall projected impact,
innovation, alignment with the Strategic Plan for Equity, Inclusion, and
Diversity, project leadership capacity, and collaborative nature.
In this inaugural year for the grants, projects that support a healthy and
engaging campus climate will be considered. The deadline for full proposals
is Monday, November 1, 2010; awards will be announced by December 1, 2010.
The first grants will be issued on January 15, 2011.
