School Equipment Program
Funding for New Physical Education Equipment in Schools
KidSport™ NWT has a limited number of grants available that can be accessed to help purchase and/or
replace outdated and missing sports equipment to support your school’s athletic programs and/or
physical education curriculum. The deadline to submit your funding proposal is November 15, 2010.
Funding preference will be given to:
Schools that can demonstrate the highest need for subsidized sport equipment (submitting
pictures of equipment needing replacement is encouraged);
Schools that can demonstrate plans to utilize the subsidized sports equipment to benefit the
highest number of children.
Schools that haven’t received KidSport™ equipment funding before.
The following factors will be considered when evaluating proposals:
How the money will be used to improve access to sport for children and youth;
How the funding will help promote the value and benefit of sport and recreation participation
How many children will be affected by the equipment that otherwise wouldn’t have had the
opportunity to participate;
Demonstrated need for funding to purchase equipment that cannot be accommodated within
current processes and/or budgets;
Demonstrated ability to maintain and replace subsidized equipment in future years to ensure
sustainability of physical education programming on a long-term basis;
About KidSport™ NWT
KidSport™ believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to
experience the positive benefits of organized sports. KidSport™ provides support to children in order to
remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.
KidSport™ has a positive effect on the lives of kids by raising funds to pay sport registration fees for
qualified applicants and by providing sports equipment so kids can play their chosen sport safely and
confidently. Our organization has been active in the NWT since 2001, and continues to develop new and
innovative ways to support healthy, active kids. To date, we have distributed more than $250,000 and
have supported over 1,400 kids. For more information or to receive an application form, contact the
KidSport™ office at (867) 669-8332.
Through this project, we hope to encourage schools to strengthen their physical education curriculum
with the purchase of equipment that supports their programming needs. We want to have a positive,
long-term influence on young people’s participation in sport and recreation within the school system –
where children tend to receive the majority of their daily physical activity.
Equipment required to operate athletic programs (i.e. balls, nets, sticks, mats, uniforms etc.)
