*WEC – Worm Egg Count – providing a fecal sample.

Yards that have relatively static horse populations might like to consider using worm
egg counts to determine whether there is any need to worm during the summer months.
This can lead to cost savings and significantly reduce the amount of wormers used.
Please call the practice if you would like to discuss this further.

     Note

           1. Programme for 2010 - The worming programme for 2010 is unchanged from
2009. If you followed the 2009 programme then do one of the following:

              a. April 1st - Use an Eraquell – as there is no need to dose again for tapeworm

                 OR

              b. April 1st - Carry out a WEC and review the results with one of the vets who
can create a tailored programme for your horses for the year.

           2. New Horses - We recommend that all new horses coming to your yard be given
either a single dose of Equest Pramox or a 5-day course of Panacur Guard plus a
single dose of Equitape. This is to treat all round and tapeworms (including any
encysted larvae) and should be done regardless of previous worming history.
