GUIDANCE FOR COMPLETION OF THIS PETITION
Many thyroid patients and their families/friends are deeply concerned about the
treatment they have received in relation to the diagnosis and management of thyroid
conditions. The aims of this petition are to increase awareness of these concerns
within the medical profession and for them to facilitate improvements in this field as a
matter of urgency.
The petition can be completed by thyroid patients and their families/friends in the
spaces provided with their name in capitals, town, postcode and signature. Please
would you enter the current date and the total number of signatures [for ease of
counting] at the bottom of each sheet of the petition once this has been completed.
Because of the high number of recipients of this petition and costs involved, please
could you include twenty photocopies of each completed petition sheet with the
original before returning them to the address below for collation and onward

This petition will be lodged with the GMC as a formal complaint and presented to: -
the Overarching Body to the GMC, the Commission of Healthcare, Health Minister,
DOH, Dame Janet Smith, Patient Concern, The British Medical Journal, The British
Medical Association, The Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine, The
Royal College of General Practitioners, The Royal Society of Medicine, Society of
Endocrinology, Medical Protection Society, Medical Defense Union, The British
Thyroid Association/British Thyroid Foundation, the Times, the BBC and ITV, at the
earliest possible opportunity.
It is important that you send a photocopy of your completed petition sheet with an
appropriate covering letter to your own MP (send to the House of Commons) to air
your concerns and further publicize this situation. If the petition sheets go to the
House of Commons, when the Members return after recess they will all be discussing
it in the House!
For the sake of all thyroid patients, both diagnosed and as yet undiagnosed we must
achieve the aims set out in the petition and believe that patient empowerment/people
power is the most effective way of doing this.
