This is an amazing opportunity for undergraduate/post graduate students that want
to make a dent in the online media/fashion space and Turbo Boost their careers.
This e-mail is going out to nearly every fashion, media and journalism student in the
We are group of guys/girls who graduated in the mid 2000's. After working in
'Normal' careers for a year, we left our jobs to create a leading recruitment site. We
were rejected by all the banks for funding and managed to bootstrap the company
over a period of three years. We had a roller-coaster ride and learnt at a fast pace in
the real entrepreneur world and not in a comfy 9-5 environment.
We managed to sell the company in 2010 where we regained the money we had put
in and gained a few years salary (a decent first attempt). We realised that although
we had learned a lot, we were not good enough, and wanted to become the best and
realised that the best online companies are from the U.S.
So we went to the U.S for 18 months and worked at a variety of leading U.S
companies, including Dropbox, Groupon and Gilt Group (an online fashion company
started in 2007 and now worth a billion dollars).
We have come back now armed with this knowledge and experience and want to
launch something big in the online fashion space.........
We have seen that the high street is rapidly declining (with the closure of Barrats etc)
and online fashion is growing at a rapid rate, with the rise of ASOS, Net-a-
Porter, my-wardrobe.com as well as other big shifts and trends, such as the shift to
There are so many fashion retailer and brand retailer sites out there, that there is
now what we call the 'paradox of choice problem'. So when you're looking it's a case
of going to different websites, clicking on endless links through Google etc.
At this stage all we can say is that we want to become
the lastminute.com/rightmove.com of fashion as at the moment there is no real
middle service for fashion.
To make this more than just a service, but an actual 360 degrees brand, with a
voice! We are creating Style Honey Life to go with Style Honey. Our aim is to create
one of the biggest and one of the best blog and video media networks (with bi-
weekly shows featuring guests from the industry etc) for fashion.
At the moment you have the big print magazine style brands (which are declining or
haven't transitioned that well to online) talking in their usual top down way or a long
tail of tumblr student/bedroom type blogs, or amateur youtube content that are
updated once in a blue moon.
We want to create something in the middle like Gawker Media in the States. This is
created by people that know their stuff, but are not given the platform as there are
only a handful of positions at the big magazines (with the usual who you know not
what you know politics etc.) or become 'another blogger with a wordpress/tumblr
blog' i.e. a needle in a haystack.
This is where you guys/girls come into play....
WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU?
We are frustrated by the lack of opportunities for talented students and graduates out
there. And the 'internships' at the big companies are basically photocopy and make
the tea. These are usually gained because somebody knows someone that can get
them a placement.
We are looking for people that are hungry, have insane drive/passion and want to be
part of a movement now!
Not needing to work their way up a ladder for 15 years before they are asked for
We are looking for people like yourself with the knowledge and talent to help create
Style Honey Life, including the content, messaging, promotion and work with us on
Style Honey itself, where your opinions count!
You will learn a variety of things such as branding, positioning, headline writing,
developing content, promoting content and PR (both online and offline), building an
audience, viral tactics and other latest online knowledge such as Google
optimisation, FaceBook, Twitter, Tumblr and Pinterest marketing and much more.
The benefit you will get is working with a bunch of highly driven, aggressive
entrepreneurs, with a focus on fast execution.
For example, we read over 500 blogs/articles a day so that we are ahead of the
game, ranging from content marketing, to my-wardrobe.com's international
expansion, to an interview with Shoedazzle founder Brian Lee, which we knew about
over 2 years ago and has been completely copied in the U.K by StylistPick.
Time wasters need not apply. This is not something which is cool or a bit of fun on
the side or for people who are interested for the first month then lose interest, but for
people who want to learn, contribute, be a key player in a tight knit elite team as well
as be part of something exciting! and not just another number at a large company.
We already have a couple of our first student team members on board, including a
Media with English student from Nottingham Trent University called Addy Smith.
We might be looking to come to your university to meet the people who seem the
most promising and impress us the most from the e-mails we receive.
If all the above excites you, then please e-mail us as soon as possible
to firstname.lastname@example.org, with the following, (as we are going through this
selection process in the next month).
- A bit about yourself, the course you study, what year you are in.
- Your passions and interests regarding fashion, media or journalism, PR etc.
- Previous jobs you have had (such as working in a bar etc)
- Future Career Aspirations
- What you like about what we are looking to do and why you want to get involved?
We would like to say a big thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this,
and we can't wait to hear from you!
