Lead in: Is medical tourism for me?
Put yourself in the place of your customer and think: Why is medical tourism for him/her?

Now let’s read the following text and work in the proposed activities:

Medical tourism isn't necessarily for everyone. Make sure you know the benefits and dangers of receiving treatment
abroad.

It's important to understand that medical tourism is not for everyone. In the US, for example, there are certain procedures
that few countries can match when it comes to quality and price. Also, for patients who are looking for early diagnoses, it
doesn't always make sense to travel abroad in order to have a doctor look them over. However, taking a medical
vacation is an excellent option for many.

A Medical Vacation Might Be an Excellent Option for You If:
   1. You are planning on taking a vacation anyway and want to receive a health checkup, operation, or treatment.
   2. You have a difficult time affording health care in your home country because:
         You lack insurance.
 Your insurance company won't cover the cost of your procedure.
 Even with insurance, the procedure is too high
   3. You're on a long waiting list for a certain procedure, physician, or medical facility in your home country.
   4. Your home country does not offer the treatment(s) or procedure(s) that you require.
   5. You want to receive affordable care without sacrificing quality.
   6. You need or desire a medical procedure that requires several days/weeks of recuperation. This is especially
popular for those looking to have cosmetic or plastic surgery performed.
   7. You simply love to travel and want to see more of the world.

Medical Tourism Can Remove Long Wait Times: Many countries with socialized medicine have unusually long wait times
coupled with copious amount of regulatory paperwork and bureaucratic red tape. Not surprisingly, countries such as
England have actually begun encouraging their citizens to receive medical attention abroad due to the shorter waiting
times and lower costs.

Medical Tourism Can Save You Money: In the United States, wait times are usually quite reasonable, but Americans have
other incentives for going abroad to receive medical treatment. In 2006, the Census Bureau indicated that 46.6 million
Americans had no medical insurance. An additional 120 million were without dental insurance. Thus, it's easy to see why
more than 500,000 Americans took medical and dental vacations that year. If you're someone who doesn't want to break
the bank or wait a long time for medical treatment, then a medical vacation might be right for you.

We are going to work in the vocabulary construction, for this we are going to design a chart of four columns by the rows
we might need in the following way:
Word Prediction Meaning in Spanish 2 Synonyms in English.

Then proceed to work in the following exercises:

                                                                   1
    1. Take the information from the text and list 10 reasons for getting medical vacations.
    2. Order that information from the most important reason to the least important reason.
    3. Explain why the first reason is the most important and the tenth the least important reason.

                                             SECOND STAGE – PRACTICE

Read the following text about the following medical tourism place.

Beautiful bodies on the sand, this is the very first things that come to mind when people think about Brazil. Taking up the
majority of South America, the energetic and vibrating music of the samba, and plenty of other tourist attractions that
make people prefer Brazil as a tourism destination. Brazil is a good place for tourists who are after one rather specific
goal: cheap and efficient medical services. Their medical tourism health care ranges from medical surgeries, psychiatry,
dental surgeries, and cosmetic surgeries are normal in Brazil. In fact, Brazil is especially known for its local cosmetic
surgery industry.

What makes Brazil a tourist destination is the promising offer its local medical environment advertises. This includes the
country’s capability to provide low-cost, world-class medical tourism treatment thanks to the devaluation of the Real,
which is Brazil’s currency, against the value of our US dollar. It could also be said that Brazil is home to some of the best
hospitals in the world. The privately owned health institutions, to be precise, are the operating center of well-reputed
surgeons.

Some of these doctors, however, have actually been trained in US Institutions, and have received certification from the
American Board of Plastic Surgery. Some are even members of American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgeons. In addition to this Brazil provides some of the most spectacular natural landscapes and sceneries for
sightseeing and relaxing, and cities with all kind of choices for entertainment as well as a good communication
infrastructure to reach most of the attractions in the country and all class of accommodations ranging from low cost
hostels as well as 5 stars hotels and resorts, offering all kind of boarding and hosting for all kind of interested customers
from all over the world.
