The Lecturer (English) will be reporting to the Head of Department. The incumbent must show initiative
and enthusiasm in working as a team player in a complex department. S/he will be required to provide
guidance to learners in mastering key skills in the field of English.

KEY PERFORMANCE                     KEY TASKS
Teaching                            o   Design and develop course material
                                    o   Teach undergraduate students
                                    o   Set and mark/evaluate assignments, tutorials and examinations
                                    o   Develop Study material
Research                            o   Engage in research in the relevant field
                                    o   Participate in Departmental and other collaborative research projects
                                    o   Publish articles in referred journals
Community Service                   o   Participates in community outreach projects
                                    o   Promote community involvement within the Department by working as a team
Administrative Tasks                o   Assist with administrative duties such as time tabling, invigilating, registration and
                                        students records.
                                    o   Participate in University committees
Professionalism                        Confident and capable of teaching primary programmes
                                       Has good understanding of policies and structures relating to the University and
                                        other academic structures
                                       Follows procedures and processes as implemented by University and other
                                        academic structures
                                       Maintains positive working relationships with other departments, students and
                                        professional bodies to promote positive reputation of the University

                        A relevant Masters qualification
                        Three (3) years of teaching experience in a University English Department, including experience with second-language
                        Evidence of the beginnings of a research record, including publications in accredited journals
                        A working knowledge of the canon of English studies
                        Evidence of discipline-related community engagement
                        Computer literacy

            The incumbent must be a self-motivated person with excellent interpersonal relations who is able to
            work under pressure and manage his/her responsibility efficiently. S/he must have an above average
knowledge knowledge of English fields and related areas. The incumbent must show experience in English. This position requires a person
            with good administrative skills (planning, execution and quality of work output) and a remarkable ability to facilitate and execute
            noteworthy presentations. The candidate must show proof of being computer literate.

                                                                         organisations as well as non-government organisations
