                                                          Parish Council
A petition which requested a 20 mph speed limit through the village was lodged with the Council at the November meeting.
Before taking action, the Council resolved to check the implications for the village of a 20mph limit being set up and to ask
residents to record their views when the key factors have been confirmed. Possible conditions might include restriction signs
at the entrances to the village, repeater signs through the village, speed humps, additional lighting which must be on all
night to illuminate additional signs and humps, and some financial contribution to the work. When these factors are clarified,
a questionnaire will be sent out with the Bulletin to residents probably in February.
Winter Preparations. The Parish Council is arranging grit deliveries from the Highways Department to fill the bins which
were purchased for last winter. The Highways supply grit to parishes on the understanding that it is used only on roads and
footpaths. If you need grit for private paths or drives now is the time to make private provision.

                                            Barrington & District Gardening Society
The November meeting was our annual guest night when club members and guests from other gardening clubs enjoy a talk,
food and wine. A very big thank you to all the club members for supplying, once again, a wonderful array of delicious food.
Our light-hearted talk was on 'Gardens of South West England' and was given by Philip Gamble, who after being lecturer in
horticulture for many years now has a hands-on approach setting up and re-organising various different gardens around the
south west. There is no meeting in December so our next meeting is on Tuesday 17 January at 7.45pm in Barrington
Village Hall for a talk on 'Garden History' by John Addison. For more information call Penny on 53323.
                                                News from St. Mary’s Church.
Thanks to all who helped in any way to tidy up the Churchyard on 5 November. Your help was much appreciated.
Thanks to our generous sponsors who supported Sue Irwin and Ken Timms, our two energetic cyclists, and contributed
£644 towards the Ride and Stride in September for The Friends of Somerset Churches and Chapels, who assist in
restoration and repair work grants to those doing building work. Diary dates for December. The Church Christmas Party
this year is at Tudor Cottage. All are welcome from 6 to 8pm on Monday, 19 December. Entry is by buying a raffle ticket
for each visitor. The Carol Service is on Christmas Eve at 6.30pm.
