WHAT IS
MEDIA SELECTION
• Determining most appropriate medium
considering:
– instructional content & objectives
– learner needs & characteristics
– environment/context
– teacher
– pedagogical issues
– strengths & limitations of medium
Contoh :
Content - argument in mathematical reasoning form 4 Mathematics
Objectives - student can define 3 form of argument
- student can make a conclusion based on
two given premises
- student can complete an argument given
a premise and the conclusion
Learner needs & characteristic
- student cannot understand well this subtopic
especially in english
- need many examples to understand
Environment - 35 above students in class
Teacher – have gsp skill
Pedagogical issue – kaedah pengajaran “chalk-n-talk” tidak dapat
memberi kefahaman yang lebih kepada pelajar
kerana guru perlu menulis contoh dengan ayat
yang panjang di papantulis dan ini memakan masa
Strength of medium – gsp can hide/show something

SELECT METHOD, MEDIA AND MATERIALS
Once you have identified your audience and stated your
objectives, you have established the beginning points
(audience’s present knowledge, skills and attitudes) and
ending points (objectives) of instruction. Your task now is to
build a bridge between these two points by choosing
appropriate method, technology and media formats, then
deciding on materials to implement these choices.

MEDIA SELECTION
GUIDELINES
• Should be driven by pedagogical &
learner considerations not technology.
• No single medium will address all
learning requirements.
• Make choices in light of functions the
medium will perform in the learning
situation.
• Effectiveness has more to do with how
the medium is used than what is used.
MEDIA SELECTION
GUIDELINES
• A mix of media allows for differences in
student learning.
• Build in redundancy and flexibility.
