*A survey was done of 54 publicly held engineering firms located in the Denver-Aurora-Boulder CSA. Financial records were reviewed and employment in the firms was estimated in various areas
such as transportation, IT, aerospace, biosciences, new energy, oil & gas and construction. Employment in each area was estimated based on the ratios of revenue in each respective area. For
example, one firm had 21% of its revenues in aerospace; its total workforce was then multiplied by 21% to determine estimated employment in that firm in that area. Employment for the 54 firms
was then totalled in each of the areas and an overall percentage of employment was derived by multiplying by the total number of workers in the 54 firms. Approximately 28.4% of the
employment in the 54 engineering services measured supported aerospace. Employment in engineering services and number of establishments on this chart has been adjusted using this ratio.
