The PNWS-AWWA Engineering Committee Presents: Call for nominations for the 2010 Excellence in Engineering Awards! NOW IS THE TIME TO START THINKING ABOUT ENTERING YOUR GREAT PROJECT OR NOMINATING SOMEONE YOU THINK DESERVES THIS HONOR. Call for Entries DEADLINE: February 19, 2010 WHO MAY ENTER? Persons, agencies, consultants, and water utilities (hereafter referred to as nominees) who have recently or will be completing a water supply, treatment, or conveyance project for a water supply utility or agency in Idaho, Oregon or Washington that is currently a member of AWWA in good standing. All projects must be in some way related to drinking water and represent Excellence in Engineering. Each utility is limited to two entries. WHAT TO ENTER? Outstanding drinking water related Engineering projects which have led to overall cost savings to the water using community, provided enhanced safety to the public and/or water resources, resulted in extended asset service life, integrated a cutting edge technology in the design, or other criteria that is representative of ‘Excellence in Engineering’. ENTRY NARRATIVE Please include these details about your entry HOW TO ENTER? in a narrative cover page(s): Prepare two copies of each nomination packet. The Title of entry nomination packet must include a completed Purpose of project nomination form, $75 entry fee, a narrative (see box), Project owner Project design team and supporting material (including project Timing and schedule for implementation drawings/select plan sheets, newspaper articles, letters, The construction budget photographs, visual aids and other relevant List of persons who worked on the design information). Each entry submitted shall not exceed a team total of 25 single sided pages. Unusual constraints JUDGING CRITERIA How the entry demonstrates ‘Excellence in Nominations for awards will be reviewed by a jury of Engineering’ in one or more of the judging three or more independent judges consisting of a criteria member(s) of the PNWS-AWWA Engineering Entry Package shall not exceed a total of 25 single sided pages Committee and at least one outside judge. Nominations will be reviewed against one or more of the following criteria: Does the project show creativity and innovation in the design? Was creativity used to reduce the overall project costs? Was special care taken to merge the facility with the surrounding environment? Does the facility have secondary community uses? Was concern for the environment incorporated into the design? Does the project incorporate technological advancement not normally found in similar projects? Did the design team have to overcome unusual challenges with the project location to make the project successful? The above list addresses items that the Engineering Committee feels helps identify a project worth ‘Excellence in Engineering’. A project does not need to address all items above to be considered for this award. If the project design team/owner feel that some additional criteria regarding their project makes it representative of ‘Excellence in Engineering’, please describe in your narrative. The following criteria are required for all entries: Projects must be submitted within 2 years of final acceptance of construction. Projects shall be submitted only once, submitting a project multiple years is not acceptable. WHO JUDGES THE ENTRIES? An independent panel of professionals from the engineering industry will judge the entries. ENTRY DEADLINE All entries are due February 19, 2010. Judging will take place during February and March 2010. Nominees will receive confirmation of nomination the second week of March 2010. Nominees will be notified of judged results by April 2010. The winning nominees will have their awards displayed at the PNWS-AWWA Annual Conference in May 2010. Winning nominees may be requested to present their entry at the 2010 PNWS-AWWA Annual Conference.
