11   TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO MR. WILLIAM HENRY
12   JOHNSON, JR., OF LAKE CITY, FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF
13   DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEE DEE AREA COUNCIL
14   OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA.

16   Whereas, a forty-year veteran of the Boy Scouts of America, Mr.
17   Johnson has been actively involved in scouting since his young
18   days, during which time he earned entrance to the elite company of
19   Eagle Scouts, later serving as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster; and
20
21   Whereas, during his fifteen years as Scoutmaster of Troop 423,
22   sponsored by Lake City First Baptist Church, he assisted thirty
23   young men in achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, an award not seen
24   in Troop 423 for ten years prior to Mr. Johnson’s assuming
25   leadership; and

27   Whereas, in addition to his work as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster,
28   he has served as Atakwa District Chairman and President of the
29   Pee Dee Area Council; and
30
31   Whereas, personally committing to help the Pee Dee Area Council
32   pay off the mortgage for its service center, Mr. Johnson has
33   spearheaded a benefit golf tournament, held annually and
34   sponsored by the company of which he is President, W. Lee
35   Flowers & Company, Inc., an effort that has raised forty to fifty
36   thousand dollars in each of the past five years; and
37
38   Whereas, Mr. Johnson’s commitment to enriching the lives and
39   developing the character and leadership abilities of countless
40   young men has earned him much praise and recognition; and

 1   Whereas, he is a James E. West Fellow, an award given to those
 2   who make a significant monetary contribution to the Pee Dee Area
 3   Council Endowment, and he has received the prestigious Silver
 4   Beaver Award, the highest recognition bestowed on an adult
 5   volunteer for distinguished service within a local council; the Good
 6   Shepherd Emblem, a national award granted to adults who have
 7   rendered outstanding service to Baptist youth; the Distinguished
 8   Eagle Award, which recognizes adult Eagle Scouts who have
 9   contributed exceptional service to the community; the Scoutmaster
10   Award of Merit; and the District Award of Merit; and
11
12   Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in
13   recognizing individuals who have fostered the youth of this great
14   State and is privileged to join with Mr. Johnson’s friends at the
15   Boy Scouts of America in honoring his selfless, generous giving of
16   time and talent to this worthwhile endeavor. Now, therefore,
17
18   Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
19
20   That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives,
21   by this resolution, express appreciation to Mr. William Henry
22   Johnson, Jr., of Lake City, for his many years of dedicated service
23   to the Pee Dee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

25   Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
26   Mr. William Henry Johnson, Jr.
