					                            End of Year Memory Book
Over the next two weeks, you will be creating your own 6th Grade Memory Book. It will include
a variety of illustrations, photos, and writing from and about your experiences in the 6th grade. You will
use the alphabet as your guide for each page. For example, if “A” stands for “Autographs,” you would
get autographs from your classmates to fill that page. If the letter “B” stands for “Best of the Best,” you
would write down the “best” things you experienced this year, like the best song, restaurant, friend,
book, etc. It is our hope that by reflecting on your successes and challenges this year and the things you
did well or not so well, you will be more prepared for the challenges you will face in the seventh grade
and beyond.
For each letter of the alphabet, you will be asked to include illustrations, writings, and/or
pictures according to the “Detailed Descriptions” handout. Your completed 6th Grade Memory Book
will be due Monday, June 8, 2009. We will spend time on June 8th and 9th sharing our memory books.
The completed book will also be your “ticket” to attend the 6th grade end of year celebration.
We will work on this in your classes beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2009. We will assign a few
letters per day. You may do more than the assigned amount IF the ones assigned are done completely,
but you must work in order, checking off each as you complete it. You will have plenty of time to finish
your books in school, therefore, books should not be taken home unless you are absent and have
permission from your teacher. By keeping your books at school, you won’t have to worry about
forgetting them at home and getting behind. Some students may take work home to complete it with
PRIOR APPROVAL, but you should make every effort to complete the work in school to the best of your
abilities.
You will need the following supplies everyday we are working on your books:
colored pencils markers pen/pencil notebook paper (for rough drafts/sketches)
Please don’t forget to bring these with you to every class, everyday. Your teachers will provide
construction paper for your front and back covers, blank pages for each letter, and some colored
pencils, crayons and markers and various other supplies if we have them. You may bring in special
items/supplies, such as glitter glue or stickers, if you would like to use them.
You must have a front cover that includes the title, “6th Grade Memory Book,” your first and last
name, your homeroom teacher’s name (Mrs. Holt/Mrs. Bennett, Mrs. Terry, or Mrs. Walawender), and
a picture, illustration, or other decoration. Your back cover must have your first and last name as well.
Each page of the book must include the letter and title of that page somewhere so your topic is clear.
This is YOUR memory book, so have fun and really work on making it something of which you can be
proud.
Please discuss this assignment with your parent/guardian and then sign below. Bring your
signed contract to school tomorrow, Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
