Getting Prepare for Your Helicopter Pilot Lessons
Training to be a helicopter pilot can be nerve wracking and if you are signed up for helicopter
pilot training, you should be sure that you know what to expect. Understanding what to expect
will ensure that you are ready to learn and you are as receptive as possible.
While you are learning how to fly, you
can expect some pretty intense helicopter
training. When you fly a helicopter you
will be required to be able to skillfully
navigate through the air while still being
able to think fast and move the aircraft
Stress management will be very important
while up in the air. Although there can be
specific situations in which flying a helicopter can be very stressful you should not encounter
these experiences in your first few helicopter lessons.
You should know that you are going to have to start by being responsible for the helicopter. The
pilot is responsible for the safe operation of the helicopter and when you are flying you and your
instructor will be working together to ensure that you and the helicopter are safe.
There are many helicopter flights that are taken solo. So, unlike a plane flight, you should be
sure that you are ready to fly by yourself after you have your license.
As you are flying a helicopter, you will be taking sole responsibility for the safety of the
helicopter and those that are flying with you. While you are taking your lessons your instructor
will focus on four different aspects of training.
Strong Body, Mind, and Knowledge
You will first need to be in the right physical condition for the strain that comes with flying.
There are situations in which you will be required to be physically fit to ensure you are able to
control the helicopter.
Mental toughness is also going to be very important while you are flying a helicopter. You will
have to memorize the controls that you are to use in different situations and memorize the
reactions you need to have to outside forces.
Repetition is very important and
although it can get tedious, you should
be sure that you go through the
repetitious stages with understanding.
The repetition will ensure that you are
able to make it through the situations on
your own and react properly.
As you are learning the physical aspect
of flying, you will also have to memorize
many different facts, laws, rules and
regulations. This can be frustrating but
the information is absolutely necessary if you are going to be a certified helicopter pilot.
A large portion of helicopter training will be completed inside of a classroom. Taking time to
focus on the material learned in the classroom and being able to recall it quickly will ensure that
you are successful while you are flying.
When you are getting ready for your lessons, be prepared for the long hours of studying that will
be necessary. You want to make sure that you are as prepared as possible when you want to start
taking these lessons.
