Fiber Arts Exhibit to open March 7 at BNAC
Members of the Cross-Town Quilters and Friends of the Burchfield Nature
and Art Center will bring a multifaceted fiber arts exhibit to the Burchfield
Center Gallery for public edification and enjoyment throughout March.
The Fiber Arts Exhibit will open Wednesday, March 7 at the Burchfield
Nature and Art Center, 2001 Union Road in West Seneca. A public reception
with refreshments will be held from 2 to 4p.m. Sunday, March 11.
The show will feature hairpin, tatted and crocheted handkerchiefs; a Monk’s
Cloth vest embellished with Swedish weaving and Brazilian embroidery;
needlepoint; crewelwork; quilts and quilt hangings; Bunka embroidery; fiber
jewelry; and needle felted animals.
Among the fiber arts to be displayed is a machine-pieced, appliquéd and
embroidered quilt titled “About Trout.” Created from a purchased pattern,
the quilt was a birthday gift for a man who enjoys fishing. The careful
crafting and choice of materials make it a unique work of art.
One corner of the Gallery will be dedicated to a spinners and dyers group,
Common Threads, who will host a display of yarns and articles made from a
variety of fibers including those from dog, llama, alpaca and wool. The
Amherst Lace & Arts Guild has also put together a special display.
The Fiber Arts Exhibit will run through April 1. For more information, call
the Burchfield Nature and Arts Center at 677-4843.
