                                  California Student Nurses Association-Tobin    We have submitted our application to exhibit
                                                                                  at the CSNA conference which is being held
                                                                                  October 17th. We are waiting to hear back
                                                                                  from Cahty Novaresi to hear if we will get a
                                                                                  reduced rate from the $1300 (Cathy is
                                                                                  currently on vacation). Tobin submitted the
                                                                                  application prior to the cut-off which allows
                                                                                  us the $1300 instead of $1500 rate.

                                  CAL/ACEP-Terri                                 CalACEP – Terri has worked with CalACEP
                                                                                  on the 911 bill. CalACEP was receptive to
                                                                                  some of the changes. Debbie spoke that CHA
                                                                                  met yesterday and made minor changes.
                                                                                  Janet stated that Aaron Wolf sent an email to

                                                        all of CHW with inaccurate information in it.
                                                        So far this has been tested at approximately 5
                                                        hospitals across California. It was found that
                                                        a 50 at one hospital can be very different than
                                                        a 50 at another hospital. Legislature finishes
                                                        by September 11th. There may be changes
                                                        that have to be made next year since there has
                                                        not been much time for testing. The
                                                        NEDOCS was removed, but there still will be
                                                        a scoring system used. CHA is having some
                                                        facilities trialing the scoring system right
                                                        now. There are positive changes to what it
                                                        was previously. This is still a work in
                                                        progress and we need to be careful since this
                                                        bill will effect every single Emergency
                                                        Department in the State of California.

            CHA/EMS Trauma Committee-Janet             CHA EMS Trauma Committee – Robert had
                                                        volunteered to be the rep on this committee.
                                                        Janet has been on this committee in the past
                                                        and will take back over as the rep for
                                                        CalENA.

                                                  meeting is was discussed that National would
                                                  not be doing a State Leaders Orientation
                                                  anymore. This has now changed from
                                                  national and there will be a webinar for State
                                                  Leaders Orientation which will occur in
                                                  December. There is not much information
                                                  available yet, but Janet will update everyone
                                                  where more information is received.

                                                  National is very concerned about participation

                                                  California. Denise announced that the early
                                                  bird price ends this week. Terri passed
                                                  around a shirt list for anyone who needs to
                                                  purchase a shirt. Janet announced about the
                                                  booths that are available for chapter or states
                                                  to exhibit at. The deadline is September 10.

                             Cal ENA State & Chapter Leaders Orientation-Terri CalENA State and Chapter leaders
                                                                                orientation. This will occur before our next
                                                                                meeting. Terri posed the question of what
                                                                                hours people would like. 9-1 or 10-2. . It
                                                                                was decided as a state council for 11-3.

Janet O’Leary                Election results                                    Results were announced. 329 voted in
                                                                                  national election. Matt Powers announced as
                                                                                  being on the national board. Matt will serve a
                                                                                  3 year director term.

                                                                                  We had a raffle as incentive for elections.
                             Election raffle                                     Dede Utley is the winner of one raffle. Julie
                                                                                  Rossi is the other winner. We almost doubled
                                                                                  our number of state votes this year. Matt
                                                                                  thanked Mark for making the online ballot
                                                                                  possible.

            Call for 2010 Committee Chairs     2010 Committee Chairs – Now is the time to
                                                start thinking about 2010 committee chairs.

            Email distribution system          National office has worked with their email
                                                vendor to come up with a proposal for state
                                                councils and chapters to utilize magnet mail
                                                which is the system that national uses. Janet
                                                had a demonstration with the vendor and felt
                                                it looks very user friendly.
                                                This system allows for options that we
                                                currently do not have. For example, tracking.
                                                The fee structure is different than what we
                                                currently have. Janet feels that it is still very
                                                economical for the state and chapters to
                                                utilize this system. The vendor would need a
                                                point person for this system. Janet O’Leary
                                                has volunteered to be the point person for the
                                                uploads. We were the first state council to
                                                contact the vendor and are interested in
                                                utilizing this service. Currently we are paying
                                                $1050 per year. Based on our current

                                                membership level, each email would cost
                                                approximately $48 to send state wide. To
                                                compare, that would be the same as sending
                                                22 emails a year state wide with out current
                                                system. We would need to come up with a
                                                procedure as a way to bill the chapters for the
                                                use of the system. If we move to this system
                                                we will need to be cognizant of the emails
                                                that we are sending and try to group the
                                                information that we are sending. If chapters
                                                do not want to participate, they would need to
                                                utilize a different way to send their emails. A
                                                decision will need to be made by October
                                                15th, to keep the contracted rates that we are
                                                currently being offered. We would need to
                                                look at possibly covering a certain number of
                                                emails per chapter from state funds.
                                                Janet explained the price structure. Question
                                                from Karen Kosmala if our email address
                                                would change – No. The vendor will set up
                                                the system the way that we have it now for no
                                                extra fees. Karen asked if there would be fees
                                                since Loma Prieta sends a lot of emails out.
                                                Julie asked what the decision process will be

                                                                     since the deadline falls before the next state
                                                                     council meeting. Janet feels that this can be
                                                                     decided with the chapter reps on a conference
                                                                     call prior to the October 15 deadline.

Chapter Reports
East Bay #223       5 min                                            Had a meeting recently with a talk on Nursing
                                                                     at Sea. Tobin Miller is the new chapter
                                                                     president. Elections will be held for 2010
                                                                     with a full ballot. $1 per member donated to
                                                                     state challenge.
Greater LA #224     5 min                                            Last meeting was in May. Meeting next
                                                                     week. Working with Arcadia Methodist for
                                                                     an EDAP class on November 11 and 12.
Mid Valley #225     5 min                                            Planning October Emergency Nurses week
                                                                     dinner. Changing name of rising star award
                                                                     to the Robert Toman rising star award. Have
                                                                     had a great turnout from different hospitals.
Orange Coast #226   5 min                                            Very successful CEN review in May.
                                                                     Monday will be a sponsored meeting.
San Diego #228      5 min                                            San Diego has chosen their officers for 2010.
                                                                     911 conference was a success and allowed
                                                                     $1000 to be given in for state challenge. CEN

                                                                        being prepared for all the hospitals for nurses
                                                                        week. Overcrowding summit will be held on
                                                                        October 14th. This is not an ENA sponsored
                                                                        event, but the chapter does help out with it.
                                                                        First Wednesday of next month will be a Spa
                                                                        day. December will be high tea at Hotel Dell.

San Francisco #230     5 min                                           Next meeting August 27th at Santa Rosa
                                                                        Memorial hospital. Wine and cheese social
                                                                        before the meeting. Elections will occur in
                                                                        October.
Channel Islands #378   5 min                                           Last meeting was in June at the Aloha
                                                                        Steakhouse sponsored by Baxter. Hoping to
                                                                        bring Aaron Wolf to do a Bullets and
                                                                        Ballistics lecture as well as have the new
                                                                        trauma director lecture in the near future.
Loma Prieta #232       5 min                                           38 members attended the ER through the ages
                                                                        lecture. The Tony Robinson award was given
                                                                        to Dr. James Davis. 8 delegates will be
                                                                        attending the convention. $1 per member was
                                                                        given to ENAF. Recently completed a survey
                                                                        monkey to see how to get more people
                                                                        involved in the chapter. The next meeting is

Inland Empire #362   5 min                                           11 delegates going to national, most of which
                                                                      are new delegates. Resolution 9-01 on sub-
                                                                      waiting rooms will be brought to national.
                                                                      Looking for a mentor to assist with rewrite if
                                                                      needed. Chapter has almost 20 members
                                                                      going to the national conference. Elections
                                                                      are currently in process. Looking at having
                                                                      an education event in October or November.
Sacramento #253      5 min                                           President resigned mid year. Marcus Godfrey
                                                                      in now president. Elections were completed
                                                                      for 2010. Continue to average 20-22 people
                                                                      at the meetings. Discussion on H1N1 was
                                                                      given at the last meeting. Education event
                                                                      will be held Sept 8 and 9 by Jeff Solheim. If
                                                                      4 people register together they get a discount.
                                                                      Sacramento will assist with manning the
                                                                      booth in October with the state council at
                                                                      CNSA. Facebook group created with 47
                                                                      current people. Sacramento would like to
                                                                      support magnet mail. GAC for Sacramento is
                                                                      working with the take your legislator to the
                                                                      ED program. Meeting in October will be on
                                                                      October 1. Meeting will focus on the national

                                                                  applications returned by May 29, 2009. Each
                                                                  Chapter was invited to award 3 new memberships to
                                                                  deserving registered nurses. In addition, some
                                                                  California Chapters accepted the challenge to match
                                                                  these gifts, sponsoring students and nurses, adding t
                                                                  our totals. A personal letter of congratulations was
                                                                  emailed to each pre paid award recipient, welcomin
                                                                  them to ENA, encouraging them to take advantage o
                                                                  membership benefits and get involved in ENA
                                                                  activities. If you are a personal sponsor of a new
                                                                  member, take them to a local or state event and
                                                                  introduce them to the benefits of being an ENA
                                                                  member.
                                                                           71 Applications were received to fill the 64
                                                                  delegates + 2 alternate slots this year. The
                                                                  discussions this year will include bylaw amendmen
                                                                  resolutions and a decision regarding future delegate

                                                                 representation. National will mail a delegate
                                                                 handbook to each registered delegate and alternate
                                                                 about two weeks prior to General Assembly.

                                                                          For timely communication and optimal
                                                                 membership services all members should always
                                                                 keep their membership, email & mailing addresses
                                                                 current with ENA’s National office. Only the
                                                                 individual member can update or change their
                                                                 personal information, email address and chapter
                                                                 preference with the national office. This data then
                                                                 filters down to state and local listings.

                                                                 Janet is suggesting a conference call to
                                                                 discuss the resolutions with the delegates.

Roundtable/                                                    Denise King from national was present at
Adjournment                                                    meeting and stated that it’s been a very busy
                                                               year at national. Retained new legal counsel,
                                                               new financial counsel, etc. These changes
                                                               should be good for the organization. Have
                                                               been aggressively managing finances at the
                                                               national level. Injury prevention is going to
                                                               start to look more at safety for the nurses and
                                                               safe workplace in addition to the current focus
                                                               on preventing injuries. A lot of work was
                                                               done around general assembly – many
                                                               changes will occur this year. Members
                                                               invited to the national board meeting.
