                            WAR MEMORIAL - UPDATE

A meeting was held between the Mayor, Sheila Friend-Smith, the
Deputy Mayor, Richard Hobbs, John Grant (RBL & RAFA), Ray Hales
(RBL), Don Collen (BKVA), Michael Jarvis (Cambridgeshire Regiment
Ass.) and Anthony Mizen (RNA). The key outcomes from the
meeting, which were unanimously agreed, are as follows:

1. A plaque in memory of the fallen since WW2 should be added
to the Ely War Memorial.
2. Ideally, it should be placed in the centre, above the existing
plaques, to retain symmetry.
3. The wording should be kept simple, to the point, avoid
naming anyone or any event or any place/district.
4. The words for the plaque should be: IN MEMORY OF THE
FALLEN. 1945 - PRESENT DAY (or 1945 TO PRESENT DAY).
5. The Deputy Mayor will include the raising of additional funds
for the Memorial through his Annual Mayor's Charity Appeal.
6. The Mayor will look into the possibility of a parade and
dedication in addition to the normal Armistice Day event. This is for
2009.
7. The Clerk to the City Council is to obtain costings for the
production of the plaque before another meeting is called to
determine the next steps to be taken.
