                    GREEN STRATEGIES

FRISCO, TEXAS (February 4, 2008) – ThyssenKrupp Elevator, one of the world’s
largest manufacturer, installer and service providers of vertical and horizontal
transportation, today announced its commitment to adopt sustainable business
strategies. To assist in the implementation of such practices, ThyssenKrupp Elevator
engaged Five Winds International, a leading consulting firm that designs and integrates
environmental and social consideration tools.

“We are developing an approach to execute and sustain a long-term green vision,” said
Stuart Prior, Executive Vice President, Americas Product Sales & Marketing, COO
Latin America & Brazil. “Our goal is to strive toward sustainability in all of our core
business activities, including projects, products and services.”

One of the first steps is to quantify the current environmental impact of all new
ThyssenKrupp Elevator products, which include manufacturing and installation of
elevators, escalators and moving walks. Maintenance, repair and modernization of
existing elevators will also be evaluated. Utilizing the internationally-recognized life
cycle assessment methodology, ThyssenKrupp Elevator will develop an understanding
to facilitate informed business decisions when designing and redesigning products and
services offered to builders and developers engaged in green construction.

“Knowing one’s environmental footprint is only the first step,” said Steve Baer, LEED
AP Senior Consultant of Five Winds International. “We have the tools, techniques and
experience to enable the identification, management and improvement of
environmental impact throughout ThyssenKrupp Elevator’s value chain.”
