					Assistant Principals and Academic Deans:
The Office of the Chief Academic Officer is seeking current Baltimore City assistant principals and
academic deans who are interested in deepening their knowledge in school-based leadership and
instructional programming and, readying themselves for the principalship. The ideal candidate is one
who has an unwavering commitment to providing quality and equitable opportunities for children and is
committed to building strong instructional teams and school partnerships. In addition, the candidate
has demonstrated the ability to use data to improve student outcomes. At the end of this year-long, in-
depth leadership study, it is expected that participants are prepared for the principal position as well as
other vital leadership roles in City Schools.

I. Program Goals

 To prepare strong leaders for the Baltimore City Schools principalship
 To provide authentic, problem-based opportunities for strategic school leadership
 To provide the skills to build effective instructional teams to improve student outcomes
 To provide opportunities for professional reflection and planning



II. Program Overview

As part of the program, a cohort of approximately 15 participants will be expected to engage in monthly
seminars focused on the overarching themes of the City Schools Leadership Framework: 1. Support
Highly Effective Instruction; 2. Engage Families and Community; 3. Cultivate Talented People; 4. Lead
Strategically. Participants will also receive a professional coach that will provide individual support and
guidance as well as instructional site visits to the applicant’s school. Upon completion of the program,
the participant will have completed the following milestones:

    Milestone Requirements

           Practicum (School-based Project)
           Electronic Portfolio
           Successful Completion of the BCPS Principal Eligibility Process
           Successful Completion of the ISSLC Licensing Exam


Below is additional information about the minimum professional criteria for the program and the
application process.

        Target Audience and Minimum Criteria

             Current Assistant Principals and Academic Deans with at least 2 years administrative
              experience
             Administration I and II endorsement
             Completion of the BCPS Assessment Center for Principal Eligibility
      Application and Deadlines

        1.    Submit your resume and most recent evaluation to Irma E. Johnson at
             ijohnson@bcps.k12.md.us by July30, 2012

        2. Complete the application by August 10,2012 and return to ijohnson@bcps.k12.md.us


Those candidates invited to participate in the next round will complete the following:

        1. Performance Task
        2. Panel Interview
        3. School Site Visit

There will be an information session on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 2:00-400 p.m. for all
interested applicants. The session will be held at
