ABOUT THE UNIT To explore qualities of Tudor portraits and work on
collaborative portraits of Henry VIII and wives, including use of Tudor
VOCABULARY pattern, rose, stance, background, foreground, texture.
RESOURCES ready mix and watercolour paint, coloured paper, wallpaper
offcuts, glue, textile scraps, ‘gems’ for adding royal detail.

SKILLS TO BE TAUGHT/LEARNING OUTCOMES/ASSESSMENT
To be able to sort appropriate materials for collage according to colour,
texture etc. and cut and glue efficiently and effectively (using correct
amount of glue and stuck down accurately).
To refine drawings of people to allow for correct proportions.
To develop own pattern design from a Tudor pattern starting point.
POSSIBLE TEACHING ACTIVITIES
To look at Tudor portraits and discuss key features of posture, setting
and surrounding objects.
Use freeze frame drama to make quick sketches or digital photos of
Henry VIII or wives poses.
Draw large figures and discuss ways of collaging the image
collaboratively, and make a painted background to mount on.
