                              Updated December 30, 2010

Executive Summary
CEE’s Consumer Electronics Program Summary describes currently active voluntary programs
that provide financial incentives for, or otherwise promote, energy efficient consumer
electronics. These programs aim to reward retailers’ and manufacturers’ efforts to improve
efficiency and increase awareness and market penetration of energy efficient electronics. This
document lists 37 CEE member organizations that are active in the consumer electronics arena;
22 of them are promoting efficient electronics in 2010 across 14 states and 3 provinces. The
remaining 15 organizations—in 14 states and 1 province beyond those mentioned above—are
gathering the information required to launch their own promotions Retailers and manufacturers
may leverage these promotions to increase the sales of their efficient products.

Drawing from a collective 2010 budget totaling more than $70 million, the 22 active programs
promote efficient televisions, computers, monitors, set-top boxes, and technologies like
advanced power strips. The majority of these efficiency programs are promoting efficient
electronics through partnerships with retailers and manufacturers. (CEE’s Consumer Electronics
Program Guide describes many tools that energy efficiency programs may use for promoting
efficient electronics). Many leading retailers are already working with these programs,
including Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Sears, Kmart, and Costco. Often, the efficiency programs use
their funding to provide retail partners with financial incentives for the efficient electronics that
they sell. For example, many of the efficiency programs featured in this document pay retailers
between $4 and $30 per television sold that qualifies for ENERGY STAR Version 4.1 or 5.1.
For computers and monitors, efficiency programs promote models that meet ENERGY STAR
Version 5.0 using either a consumer rebate or retailer incentive. Other programs are providing
similar support for efficient set-top boxes and energy management devices like advanced power
strips.

Due to the fact that each CEE member uses different program development processes and
schedules, this document aims to provide the best available snapshot of these programs at the
date of its publication, and does not describe how they have evolved to date or how they are
likely to change in the future.
