Job title: Communications intern Report to: Kimberley Sevcik, Information & Media Relations Manager Camfed (the Campaign for Female Education) is dedicated to fighting poverty and HIV/AIDS in rural Africa by educating girls and investing in economic independence and leadership opportunities once they complete school. Since Camfed was launched in 1993, 1, 451,600 children have benefited from its educational programs. Camfed is widely recognized as a best-practice organization by international institutions including the World Bank and UNICEF. Camfed is recognized for its innovative approach to communications, which brings authentic voices from Africa to our supporters via online platforms, social media and film. For more information on Camfed, please visit www.camfed.org. Job summary: Camfed is looking for a creative, self-starting intern with a strong interest in the field of international development. The communications intern will assist Camfed staff with research, writing, film distribution and marketing projects in order to raise awareness about Camfed’s work, and the issue of girls’ education/women’s empowerment. Among the exciting communications projects currently underway: development of distribution strategies and social marketing campaigns around two new documentary films; production of new marketing materials; media outreach around Camfed’s unique model; research and writing about girls’ education/women’s empowerment for Camfed blog as well as external blogs. Qualifications Excellent writing skills Understanding of media outreach, and familiarity with a wide range of media outlets Familiarity with the world of social change documentary Familiarity with international development terminology and resources Familiarity with development issues in Africa Enthusiasm for promoting Camfed’s mission Duties and Responsibilities Research and marketing support Conduct research to identify marketing and media opportunities with potential to raise awareness about Camfed’s work Provide research support for media and marketing projects Provide research support for film distribution Assist in promoting new Camfed initiatives, including our new documentaries, and key reports, events and programs Content creation Write copy for Camfed web site Assist in selecting photos for publication Assist in producing multimedia resources for Camfed’s web site Asset management Assist in developing and maintaining Camfed’s multimedia library Assist with administrative duties around screenings and distribution of Camfed’s documentary film and other major initiatives Terms and Conditions Work 20-40 hours a week for 2-3 months. Compensation: Unpaid, with a monthly stipend available to cover local travel expenses and lunches.
