       2012 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Scholarship Application


SPARK, the Education Foundation for Prince William County Public Schools is pleased to offer two,
$1,000 scholarships to two (2) 2012 graduates of PWCS who plan to pursue a career in a Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) field.

Eligibility Criteria

      The applicant must plan to pursue a four-year degree in a STEM-related field at an accredited
       institution of higher learning. The applicant may initially attend a two-year college with the intent
       of pursuing a four-year degree in a STEM field of study.
      The applicant must have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA during his/her high school career and
       provide a high school transcript including first semester grades for their senior year.
      The applicant must have participated in extra-curricular activities (clubs, sports, school,
       church/place of worship organizations, and/or community groups) while in high school. (Part II
       and III of application)
      A 500 word essay must be submitted with this application. The essay must describe the
       importance of STEM and also describe experiences that lead the applicant to pursue this area
       of study. (Part IV of application)
      The applicant must submit a recommendation from one teacher or one employer. (Part V of
       application)

Deadline

       Applications must be typewritten and received by April 9, 2012. Late applications will not be
       accepted and applications cannot be faxed or emailed. Completed applications may be hand
       delivered or mailed to:

If mailed, the post-marked date must be no later than April 9, 2012.


The SPARK Scholarship Committee will select and announce the recipient in May 2012. The
scholarship award shall be based on merit and qualifications and shall not discriminate against any
person on the basis of sex, race, religion, handicap or national origin.
