									       CONTINUING EDUCATION AND FEDERAL TECHNICIAN ASSISTANCE

5 CFR 410.511 [57 FR 19515, May 7, 1991] permits but does not require agencies to
authorize and pay for training that may lead to an academic degree. The Federal
Technician Program will assist with tuition in accordance with regulation that
stipulates college courses MUST have a correlation with a technician’s full-time
position and the course taken.

The following must be completed by a technician requesting continuing education and
federal technician assistance:

      Complete the Authorization, Agreement and Certification of Training (SF-182)
         - Direct-line supervisor and second-line supervisor MUST approve and sign
            on page two.
         - Page five (5) of the SF-182 must be signed and completed by the
            technician.

      Complete the Statement of Understanding (HRO-EDS FTP 01/09)
          -   Read and sign. Applications will not be accepted if the form is not
              completed.

      Class curriculum or class outline must be submitted in cases of questionable
       class content.

       Upon receipt of the request by the HRDS, the position description of the
       technician will be reviewed and approval or disapproval of the training request
       will be given.
