Penny Martin gave a concise report of the meeting and progress. A discussion around
the difficulties of data collection, record keeping and evaluation took place. Clare

could be as simple as offering a back pack and embroidered FS badges (for the

was an excellent idea.
AP 3: BM and PM to work up the idea and explore options and implications.
4. Draft FEI Forest School Strategy

AP 4: PM to circulate full document to the core group for comment, possibly with
key questions and a timeframe for response, for ratification at the next Working

AP6: PM to respond on behalf of FEI Forest School Scotland before end March.
6. FEI Cluster Group Reports
Elaine Jamieson from North and West Argyll FEI Cluster Group gave an update from
her group. The group was formed in 2004 and in 2006 funding was granted from the
FEI Partnership Fund to do a Forest School training project for members of the group.
Various networking events were held. Most of the group comprised freelance people.
In 2009 a Forest School Pilot Project with Taynuilt and Kilninver was run. In 2010 a
proposal for F4P funding was put together and granted. Unfortunately the group did
not manage to raise all the match funding so the project was reduced by half to around
£100,000 to deliver 9 Forest School and 9 Outdoor Learning projects. This ends in
May and a full report will go on the website. The group has just been awarded an FEI
partnership fund grant to run a series of networking events to try to expand the scope
of the cluster group. They have also been awarded money from the FCS seedcorn
fund to put together an action plan for the group and work on the website.
There was some discussion around the issues of FEI cluster groups coping with admin
AP7: BM and SY to discuss issues of FEI Clusters admin and explore possibility of
extending small grant claim.
7. Urgent and Unexpected Items
Forest School Coordinator Post
The group agreed to support an application to extend the funding for the post. Living
Classrooms are happy to continue to host the post for a further year.
AP 8: BM to put application together.
Anna brought to our attention the good reports that Forest School activity has been
receiving as part of HMIE reports in the Borders. Kelso High School forest school
was highlighted as outstanding practice. A video is going to be made and put into a
Journey to Excellence.
8. Date of Next Meeting
AP 9: PM to doodle dates in late April/early May for next meeting.
