Preamble
Smithfield Middle School is fully accredited by the state of Virginia, based on the spring 2010 SOL test results. SMS scored 93% in Reading 7, 93%
in Reading 8, 93% in Writing, 66% in Math 7, 89% in Math 8, 99% in Algebra, 100% in Geometry,
92% in History 7, 90% in Civics/Economics 8 and 95% in Science 8. SMS faculty and staff consider the strategies listed below as our best
instructional practices and will continue to implement these practices as we develop our annual School Improvement Plan.
Differentiation of instructional delivery to meet the needs of all students
Involving parents in the education of their child(ren)
Use of various standardized, district, and teacher-created assessments and the analysis of data from those assessments to drive instructional
