4. Lesson Outline: Students will create a timeline of events from chapter 5 of Frindle.
5. Description of Activity:
Before Reading: Students work in small groups to define vocabulary. Give each group 2
or 3 words. Students will write the word and other related words on chart. Share charts with
Vocabulary word Related words
Read title of chapter 5 on p. 22. Make predictions about what will happen in this chapter. Then
ask, “What makes you think that?”
During Reading: Read chapter 5 orally with students. Tell students to pay close attention
to the order that things happen in class that day.
After Reading: Have students make a list of events from chapter 5 with small group.
Share lists. Use information to complete a timeline of the events that happened in 7th period.
Begin with “Nick had a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach.” End with “Mrs. Granger assigns
Homework.” Time Liner can be used to create the timeline.
