We are seeking to hire one full time intern for a period of two months for a UNICEF funded project to
develop a monitoring and evaluation system for a sanitation promotion project – Total Sanitation
Campaign (TSC) – in Madhya Pradesh (MP). We are seeking to hire a Summer Intern to support in above
project. The tasks expected of the intern are:
Conduct field visits: The intern will conduct 10-12 day field visit to Guna and Raghavgarh blocks
in Guna district of MP state. The intern will visit all 10 villages in M&E project and conduct
interviews with stakeholders.
Preparation of baseline report: we have collected, cleaned and analyzed the baseline data. We
expect intern to improve the draft baseline report with additional econometric analysis for
consumer segmentation, demand assessment, and other analyses.
Preparation of draft M&E system: The intern will assess the M&E system being implemented,
analyze the M&E data, and suggest a practical yet effective M&E system. He/she will also
prepare the draft report for M&E system.
Preparation of draft manuscript: based on above analyses, the intern will prepare a draft
manuscript on a mutually agreed topic.
The intern will be mainly based in Madhya Pradesh State Guna District (field research) as well as in
Mumbai (desk research). NEERMAN will provide necessary background training and mentoring
required. Intern will be paired with a local researcher or staff on field for language and logistics support.
Guna district is rural and backward (typical rural India), but with good hotel and transportation facilities.
The intern should be an advanced Masters or PhD student with verifiable skills in econometric analysis,
qualitative research methods, report / manuscript writing, and a solid background in environment,
public health, and/or policy research. Skills or experience in monitoring and evaluation of programs,
experience in working with government programs in public health/environment sector, and
understanding of relevant Indian scenario will be a plus. Intern should have ability to guide junior
research assistants in field as well as an ability to work independently without supervision.
We will pay $2650 (Fixed) for all expenses to come to Mumbai and 2 month stay in Mumbai (paying
guest or hostel accommodation, local transport, and other expenses). All expenses for field travel will be
incurred by NEERMAN directly. Additional $500 will be awarded if the intern is able to produce a journal
manuscript to our satisfaction at a later date.
