The Healthy Edge Story:
We have created The Healthy Edge for individuals and families who are ready to commit to lifelong health
and refuse to remain victim to the circumstances in their lives, especially when it comes to their health.
This system is for people who are sick and tired of being sick and tired. It is for people who believe they
are choosing wisely, but not seeing or feeling the desired results. It is also for people who want to create a
healthy environment for their children but are unsure where or how to start. Ultimately, it is for people
who are ready to take on their life.
The Healthy Edge is a window into our lifestyle. It is education, accountability, commitment, and personal
development. It looks past the weight to health. It focuses on the small daily decisions that compound and
creates our lives. It is about taking personal responsibility for our life. It acknowledges that we always
have a choice and we are an accumulation of those choices.
The passion behind the program stems from the loss of our (Amber and April’s) mother, Arlene, 6 years
ago to breast cancer. At the age of 46, she was gone too soon and left us desperately searching for reasons
and answers. It left us wondering, “Were we destined to the same fate?” We had a renewed sense of
control over our health when we were introduced to a company renowned for its products to promote
health at the cellular level. The USANA products have enhanced our lives and we have blessed countless
people, but we know that true health is more than daily supplementation.
The Healthy Edge began when people in our lives began asking us for quality information, real life
strategies, and accountability. In January 2008, we (Amber and Brian) opened up our home to 25 friends
and personal training clients who were eager to commit to a healthy lifestyle, but lacked the tools and
support to do so. They began weekly seminars filled with real life strategies for healthy living. Lifestyle
logs were kept throughout the 6 week program to enhance accountability and awareness. Support
materials such as grocery and pantry lists, meal plans and recipes provided realistic solutions to excuses of
the past. After 6 weeks of committed and conscious living everyone was amazed at the transformations.
People were experiencing incredible weight release, improved sleeping patterns and increased energy.
People had stopped feeling the desire to drink pop, alcohol, and coffee and were feeling the positive effect
in their pocketbooks. More importantly, we saw people truly happy and optimistic about their ability to do
this for the rest of their lives.
We filled our next seminar without any outside advertisement. Friends, family, and coworkers of those
original 25 people, saw the transformation and they signed up. We have conducted over 15 programs in
Washington and Ohio since January 2008 and feel God is urging us to think bigger. Thank you supporting
our passion to change not only the physical health, but emotional, spiritual, financial, and mental health of
the world. Together we can change the face of the world for the next generation.
To empower people to commit to taking a proactive and preventative approach to their health through a
dynamic support system of education, accountability, and real life strategies.
Develop a duplicatable system for The Healthy Edge through two methods:

a. Join a group of people each week online or at a destined location. If you are traveling to a
destination, dinner may be provided each week!
b. Seven seminars addressing all aspects of healthy living including low-glycemic eating,
exercise, eating out, eating during your workday, reading food labels, grocery shopping,
meal planning and nutritional supplementation.
c. Personal development exercises incorporating identification and awareness around “food
programs”, family, self-image, and self-worth issues.
d. Support materials including six week website subscription and guidebook.
i. Recipes, seminar notes, shopping guides, grocery and pantry lists, eating plan, etc.
e. Accountability for participants through daily goals, body measurements, pictures, and
Seminar 1: Insulin Resistance and The Glycemic Index – It may physically and mentally not be your
fault for where you are in your health. Learn how to reduce the carbohydrate cravings and get insulin
levels under control. Learn what is Insulin Resistance? How does it adversely affects weight loss and your
health? What is the role of blood sugar and what is the physical and emotional results of consuming low

Seminar 2: Eating Out and Eating at The Workplace – How do you take responsibility for your
choices and live a life of freedom? How can you succeed living a healthy lifestyle at the workplace?
Learn how to prepare your week and set up your environment at work to win. How do you stay on track
when eating out? What are you really ordering? What are healthy choices available at your favorite
restaurants and what is the reality of what we are consuming when we eat out? Get empowered to take on
work and eating out!
Seminar 3: Exercise – Most people know how to exercise so why don’t we? What is holding you back?
Are your goals for exercise to get healthy, fit or both? How can strength training and circuit training
dramatically increase the results you see? How do you know what is your target heart rate? How can you
maximize the calories you burn for hours afterwards? Get motivated and empowered to get out and move!
You will look at exercise in a completely different light after this seminar!
Seminar 4: Reading Food Labels Part I – Three destructive mindsets that can hold you back from
health, weight release, close relationships and your dreams. Learn about the information found on food
labels. What you need to know about carbohydrates, fiber, fats, and proteins to be empowered in your
healthy lifestyle? What does low fat, no fat, low calories, etc. really mean when it comes to your weight
and health? What is regulated on food labels and what is marketing? What should I be buying organic?
Seminar 5: Reading Food Labels Part II – The top 10 worse food additives are unveiled in this life
changing seminar. Discover what current research says about artificial sweeteners, artificial colorings,
additives and preservatives founds in our foods and the affect it has on our health and your children’s
health! Get a handy “shopping guide” to take with you when you go to the grocery store!
Seminar 6: Maximize Fat Loss – “I just have a slow metabolism” will never come out of your mouth
again after this seminar! Learn how protein, fiber, and muscle mass can increase the fat and calories you
burn daily and change your body! Discover the secret to fiber and protein in your fat release! Fine tune
your Healthy Edge journey by evaluating your progress and identifying what is missing.
Seminar 7: Where Do We Go From Here? Congratulations! We take you on a journey of goal setting
and hope for what lies in front of you. Get your final hip, waist, and weight measurements and see how
well you have done! Discuss the victories and challenges ahead and what how you can implement a
lifestyle change from the education gained in the last six weeks. Gain valuable tools to apply to all aspects
of your life!
Stephanie released a total of 3.5 inches in her hips
and waist. She released 3% of her body weight in 6 Phil released 24 total pounds and 7.75 total inches
weeks. Her husband, Keith, released 22 pounds! in his hips and waist. His whole family participated!
John released 34.4 pounds during The
Healthy Edge. He released 6 inches in
his waist and 3 inches in his hips. Since
the program, he has released a total of
over 60 pounds.
John worked with a trainer three years
ago and experienced significant
weight loss. The trainer warned him that
the weight would come back if he did
not learn to incorporate a healthy
lifestyle along with exercise.
Consequently the weight came back.

John Wanamaker’s Testimony
By late 2000 I was fed up with being fat. Vowing to get back to condition I was when I
was in the military 10 years earlier, I set out on a physical training program with the
assistance of a personal trainer. Over the next 9 months (and $3,000 in personal
training) I shed 70 pounds though 1 hour workouts every morning and 2 hour workouts
every evening as well as a very regimented diet including Hydroxycut and protein
shakes. The results were very visible to see. I fit into sizes I hadn’t worn since early
college, my resting heart rate was under 60, my cholesterol was well in hand as was my
blood sugar level and blood pressure. While I was very pleased with my success, my
trainer warned me that if I didn’t learn to eat right all that weight I had lost would come
back. I didn’t listen – within 3 years all 70 pounds and change was back. Further, I had
just been admitted to the hospital with a potential heart attack at age 41. After
exploratory surgery that took videos of the inside of my heart it was determined that no
permanent damage had been done but that I needed to lose the weight or my life
would dramatically shorten. I was also suffering from an ulcer in my esophagus,
cholesterol and blood pressure levels that were unreasonably high and blood sugar
levels that were rapidly headed towards diabetes, a disease that has taken several of
my family over the years. Between the very high stress job that is also my passion,
construction of our “forever house” custom home that nearly destroyed us financially
and my wife losing her job, the potential for a catastrophic health event was going ever
more probable as my stress increased, my sleep decreasing my general health heading
Over the next 4 years I tried a number of diets and workouts without success. In May of
2008 my wife drug me to a seminar with a “Life Coach” which to me sounded like some
new age smoke and mirrors title for getting into my wallet. I couldn’t have been more
wrong. The “Life Coach” was Amber Thiel and the seminar was the Healthy Edge. In
spite of myself I listened to what she had to say and couldn’t find any holes in her facts.
However I was still not convinced and only because my wife was insistent, I agreed to
try it out even though it would mean stretching our dollars to the breaking point. (While
the dollars were not a lot, we are still trying to recover from the multiple financial
setbacks we have experienced). I am glad we took the chance. Between May and
September 2008 I lost 55 pounds, my blood pressure dropped from 170/110 to 112/70,
my BMI went from 34% to 26%, I am sleeping through the night and have a cholesterol
level that is well within normal. I have also seen my business pick up as I have been
more effective at work as well as have the energy when I get home to interact with my
family without being an impossible bear. Because of Amber’s teaching and the Usana
products, I am able to live a healthy lifestyle where I eat well, have time with my family
instead of at the gym, and still enjoy occasional treats without having an impact on my
