									                                LCA Committee Meeting Minutes

Sunday 22nd Jan 2012 at 7:00pm in Memorial Hall, Lisvane

Attendees: Mary Ball (MB), Steve Finch (SF), Colin George (CG) - Chair, Julie George (JG), Margaret
Hockin (MH), Pat Harding (PH), Derrek Jones (DJ) – Treasurer, Chris Moseley (CM), Sue Williams
(SW).

Apologies: Clive Brown (CB), Tony Cousins (TC), Virginia Chambers (VC), Peter Gough (PG), Barrie
Husband (BH), Graham Morgan (GM), Emma Reid-Jones (ER).

1 Welcome & Apologies: CG opened the meeting by thanking all the attendees, wishing everyone a
Happy New Year, and noting the apologies for absence.

2 Minutes of Last Meeting: These were approved and signed as a true record.

3 Matters Arising:
 The Festival Committee have now purchased 3 new marquees for the Summer Fete.
 The LCA & LCC are liaising to consider possible events to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

4 Treasurer’s Report: DJ reported the latest financial details to the meeting, with income from
advertising continuing to contribute significantly towards meeting the cost of producing the Link. A
cheque for £200 had been received by the LCA from the Lisvane Parochial Church Council, with £100
to be allocated to the LCA General Fund, and £100 to be allocated to the 50+ Club – many thanks.

5 Festival Report: The Festival Committee will hold their first meeting of 2012 on Wed 25th Jan with a
view to firming up the dates and events that have already been pencilled-in for this year, including the
Fete on Sat 16/06. Representatives of the affiliated groups were urged to check with their members and
confirm their involvement in the various events that will take place during the Festival. As the
celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee are due to take place in the first week of June, the LCA &
LCC are considering events which could combine the Jubilee and the Festival in June.

6 Affiliated Groups Updates: Reports were provided by the following groups:
 Bridge Club (CM): The annual Bridge Drive during the Festival fortnight has now been scheduled
   for Mon 11th Jun.
 Rotary Club of Cardiff Breakfast (CM): The Young Musician District Finals were held on Sat
21st Jan in the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, a truly fantastic venue. There were 8
vocalists and 9 instrumentalists aged 11-17 from across South Wales, all of a very high standard, and
the event was a terrific success. There is a great upcoming social event – the annual ‘Call My Bluff’
Wine Quiz in the Lisvane Memorial Hall on Fri 17th Feb at 7:30pm.
 Llanishen Rotary (DJ): Upcoming events at the Lisvane Memorial Hall include the YouthSpeak
Juniors on Mon 23rd Jan and the YouthSpeak Seniors on Thu 26th Jan.
 Tennis Club (SF): The Coach at Lisvane Tennis Club has now attained the LTA Level 3 Coaching
Badge, and is qualified to coach Juniors & Seniors of all ability levels at the club. Private & group
training sessions are available, and he will also be involved in organising the Rotary Tennis
Tournament scheduled for the Easter break.
 50+ Club (TC): The Christmas Meal at the Black Griffin on Wed 14th Dec was well attended and
very enjoyable, Community Constable Jonathan Edwards gave a short talk on Wed 18th Jan, and
there will be a visit to the Welsh Assembly and Senedd on Wed 25th Jan. With 3 or 4 new members
having joined recently, membership is now around 25.
 Friends of Coed-y-Felin (TC): The Committee will walk the woodland next week with Ranger Raj
Chettri to identify the priority tasks for action during the coming year.
 Cricket Club (CB): The four regular senior sides had an interesting and challenging 2011 season -
some of them narrowly avoided relegation, whilst the Third XI won Division 4 of the South Wales
Cricket Conference in their final match. The Club even arranged several Fifth XI matches to
accommodate the many youngsters coming through the ranks. The Family Tour in August was a
great success, and various teams competed at U9, U11, U13 and U15, including some who won their
leagues. The Club is going from strength to strength and now has an assured future, demonstrated by
almost 40 boys and girls who won their Cardiff, County or Wales caps this year, and the many
coaches who helped them to achieve this.
 Friends of Parc Cefn Onn (TC): The ongoing 5-year plan in conjunction with Cardiff County
Council includes upgrading the main entrance, improving the offices and toilets, and turning the
lower pond into a wildlife area, whilst the workday plan for weekend volunteers also has a clear plan
of tasks to be undertaken in 2012 – all are welcome to come and help. There is still work to be done
to deal with the Phytophthora blight, but DEFRA rules may allow replanting in the next year or two.
 Treetops (PH): The recent visit on behalf of the Police by the character ‘Bobby Blue’ was well
received by the children, and the Treetops staff may well ask for him to visit again, possibly during
the Teddy Bear’s Picnic or the Festival Fete.

7 Grant Applications:
 There were none this month.

8_Any Other Business & Date of Next Meeting:
 DJ said that £192 has been donated towards the Old School Fund by the Friends of Coed-y-Felin
resulting from the sale of their Christmas Cards – many thanks for this.
 It was noted that the path at North Ridgeway has recently been re-opened.
